I want to open a Café Ruc in Portugal and perhaps Spain. I want to open a Café Ruc in Portugal and perhaps Spain. Is it possible? I loved the Café, and Í´m hoping you could franchise the label, food and style of it, so I can bring it here in Portugal and into Spain. If you think that's possible, please contact me trough my e-mail trigueirosdacunha@iol.pt . My best regards and congratulations for an excellent space and ambiance, not to mention the food. Avoid the Cafe Ruc The worst dining experience we had in France, due to the service. Although the place was recommended to us, terrible service ruined the meal. We were seated in the “foreigners area” - not necessarily a bad idea, because a waiter who spoke languages other than French can be assigned to the area. Sometimes this works out fine, sometimes not - but this night was really bad. It took forever just to get waited on - I was ready to walk out, as there was another recommended restaurant half a block away - but, by the time I returned from the rest room, Carol had struck a conversation with a very nice Australian couple next to us, and the waitress arrived before we could depart.
My partner Carol had Gazpacho, followed by tuna in a sesame crust. I had a five-greens salad (lettuce, fava & green beans, snow peas, asparagus) followed by calf’s liver with grapes.
The food was fine, although Carol never got the rice that was supposed to come with her tuna. I ordered a Brouilly (a cru Beaujolais), but the waitress said that is was no good - she said it was “too cold”. When I asked for a suggestion, she pointed to the two most expensive bottles on the list - more than three times the price of the Brouilly. While I realize that, in an absolute sense, Guigal Côte Rôtie and a premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin are better wines, they were not nearly as good a match for the food that we ordered. And, by the time the food arrived, the wine was at room temperature anyway - too warm for a Beaujolias. When we got the bill, the waitress told us that we could add the tip either on the bill via credit card, or in cash. But, in France, a 15% tip (as well as tax) is included in the price - it’s perfectly proper to leave a little extra if you feel that the service warrants it, but is not necessary. This was a night (the only time in our trip, really) that I would have liked to hit the waitress, but of course I couldn't. After I signed the bill, I remarked to Carol that “the waitress is a real bitch” - and got a look that told me she was right behind me. I only hope that she overheard. [02 Nov 2003 17:45:07]
