Great little place
The owner Angelo is always on hand and is wiling to do whatever it takes to make it a successful evening.

Great food. Cozy atmosphere.    [05 Feb 2005 00:05:35]

Obnoxious and uptight
Success really goes to some restaurant's heads. Babbo Angelo is a perfect example. The once cozy, quiet, semi-authentic Italian eatery is now obnoxious, busy, and with poor service. While the prices are not outrageous, don't think about getting out of there for under 5000 yen per person. There is a one drink and one appetizer minimum per person, carefully not posted anywhere including the menu. This is in addition to at least one entree per person. They also tend to give you a hard time about ordering anything but the course set on busy nights. The food's good, but hard to swallow with the obnoxious attitude. I would recommend trying one of Jiyugaoka's other exceptional restaurants.    [26 Nov 2005 21:32:10]

Never disappointed
It's a bit far for me to go all the way to Jiyugaoka, but it's always worth it. Angelo always comes to our table, gives us his recommendations of the freshest products today, and usually suggests a complete menu from these. I really like it, not to have to look at the menu.

Nothing obnoxious, as the previous reviewer suggests. All staff are young, genki, and cheerful.    [16 Feb 2006 03:30:01]

Good Food but Busy....
I went there with my girlfriend and it was an enjoyable experience. The food was nice, fresh and imaginative.

The three cheese gnocchi was excellent.

However, it was very busy and a little cramped. Also the restaurant was noisy, and I couldn't always hear what people were saying. The service was only OK.

Overall, it was good but not great.    [18 May 2006 23:43:37]

I feel so sorry for the people who think that they know about Italian food.
To judge the Italian food you must be an Italian native
just go there for a great experience.    [04 Jan 2007 04:46:47]

Even impressed my Italian friends...
One of the best Italian restaurants in Tokyo... maybe the best if you think of the price. The pizza is fantastic and the food is likewise. If you are lucky and Angelo (the owner) is there, tell him you have 5000 each to spend (my recommendation)... and do "omakase" (chefs selection). He will not only let you know whats NOT on the menu, he'll also end up feeding you to your hearts content.

Don't miss out on the focaccia (with prosciutto if you like)! The mix clam butter sauté is fantastic as well. The scampi cream pasta is a winner. For pizza start with a margarita (the simplest one) and move out from there.

Be careful, if you eat too much you won't make it to the main course (I hardly ever do), and don't forget to ask for the dessert "mori-awase" (mixed selection) at the end.

Enjoy!    [06 Feb 2007 09:23:00]
