Agadir, highly recommended [Agadir, een aanrader!]
This restaurant has won a permanent spot in the top 5 of my girlfriend and me and it’s still standing at No. 1 and going strong.

The quality of the food is very good and prepared with a lot of love by the chef. This man only works with fresh ingredients, which may result in the fact that a dish that is on the menu may not be available. Take into account that preparation times are longer, because of the use of fresh ingredients. You see: everything is also prepared on the spot. Having trouble choosing? The hostess will gladly help you out and explain the dishes to you.

They also cater quite well for vegetarians; there is ample choice of dishes.
The chef can also take into account people’s diets such as milk-free or gluten-free. Obviously it is better to say this up front.

Hence my mark for food quality: 10

Service is among the best. Decent girls serve you and the hostess makes sure that everything goes smoothly. The whole place is neat and clean, including the restrooms.

The only negative point I can come up with is the fact that you cannot pay with a debit card, but if you know this you can prepare for it and get cash from the ATM around the corner. The first time around I was at the till without cash too, and of course at that time one of you stays behind while the other goes out to the ATM. But when the hostess got wind of that, she came over to us and said that she would not stand for it that a woman should go out on her own this late: we should go together or otherwise we could just pay through a bank transfer after we got back home. I insisted on going to the ATM and proposed to leave my handbag as security, but she would not have it, they trust their guests completely! (I hope that this does put any wrong thoughts into malevolent people’s heads).

Marks for the service: 9, i.e. 8 because they don’t take debit cards, but a 10 for the trust the put in their guests, which averages out to 9 ;-)

I would describe the atmosphere as homey and cosy, you feel a guest and a friend alike. Cosy music, nice lighting all around (the candle is placed in such a way that it doesn’t blind you) and the decoration is warm and cosy. The restaurant is inside a wonderful old building in the town centre. You can see that it used to be a living room, which helps in making it so cosy.

I read here that some people think that the hostess is overly present, and well, it’s a personal interpretation that I don’t agree with. On the contrary I appreciate it very much and for us it is one of the reasons we keep returning here. It gives us a familiar feeling. I see it as showing an interest in your guests, and I also appreciated that she recognized us when we came there for the 2nd time, even though there were several months in between. Where do you find this nowadays?

In many restaurants I just feel like a number on such an evening; you don’t get that impression when you have dined at Agadir. The fact that their guests come from far and near and remain faithful over the years, says it all, I think. You’re not being stared out when it gets late either. On both occasions we had a friendly chat with the chef and hostess afterwards. Hard-working, honest people with a heart for their business. Not for the love of money, but with lots of love for their trade.

Marks for atmosphere: 10; I feel at home here.

The price/quality ratio is good. If you want it all for next to no money you’d better order a plate at a cafeteria, but if you go for freshness and wonderful food in a great relaxed atmosphere, this is the right place to come to.

Mark: 9, it’s just very good when you see what you get for your money.

Yes, you may have noticed that we think highly of this restaurant and these loving people. We will return here regularly for as long as we can – they have indeed reached “a certain age”, so you never know when they’ll retire.

And in case you might think so after this “commercial”: no, I don’t have shares in this restaurant ;-))

Oh yes, do call up front if you want to go there. It is a busy place and it would be a pity if there is no table available when you arrive.

[Dit restaurant heeft bij mij en mijn vriendin voorgoed een plekje gekregen in de top 5 en staat nog steeds met stip op nr. 1.

De kwaliteit van het eten is bijzonder goed, en door de kok met vreselijk veel liefde klaargemaakt. Deze man werkt alleen met verse ingredienten, waardoor het soms kan gebeuren dat een gerecht wat wel op de kaart staat, niet leverbaar is. Houd door het gebruik van verse ingredienten ook rekening met een langere bereidingstijd, alles wordt nml. ook vers klaargemaakt. Kun je niet kiezen wat te eten? De gastvrouw is je graag van dienst om de gerechten toe te lichten.

Op vegetarisch gebied kun je hier ook goed terecht, er is genoeg keuze wat dat betreft.
Ook bestaat de mogelijkheid dat de kok rekening houdt met mensen die een dieet volgen zoals melkvrij en glutenvrij. Wel is het dan handiger om dat van te voren te vermelden natuurlijk.

Vandaar mijn cijfer voor kwaliteit van het eten: 10

Service is op en top! Fatsoenlijke meisjes die je bedienen, en de gastvrouw zorgt dat alles goed reilt en zeilt. Het is er overal netjes en schoon, ook de wc!

Het enige minpuntje wat ik kan bedenken, is dat er geen mogelijkheid tot pinnen was, maar als je dat weet kun je daar rekening mee houden en pinnen op de hoek. De eerste keer stond ik dan ook zonder contanten bij de kassa, en ja, wat doe je dan, dan laat je de één achter, en gaat de ander pinnen, maar toen de gastvrouw daar lucht van kreeg kwam ze gelijk naar ons toe. Ik mocht als vrouw in mijn eentje niet meer over straat van haar, we moesten samen en anders mochten we het ook achteraf via de bank doen als we thuis waren. Wilde toch maar pinnen, en dan mijn tas als onderpand achterlaten, maar daar wilde ze niets van weten, alle vertrouwen in de gast! (ik hoop dat ik hiermee geen kwaadwillenden op verkeerde ideeen breng!)

Cijfer voor de service een 9, een 8 voor het ontbreken van de pin, maar een 10 voor het vertrouwen in de gast, maakt gemiddeld 9 ;-)

De sfeer zou ik omschrijven als huiselijk en gezellig, je voelt je gast en vriend tegelijk. Gezellige muziek, fijne verlichting overal (het kaarsje wordt netjes zo gezet dat het niet in je ogen schijnt!)en de aankleding is warm en gezellig. Het restaurant bevindt zich in een prachtig oud pand in de binnenstad. Je kunt zien dat het vroeger een huiskamer was, dat maakt het mede zo gezellig.

Ik lees hier dat sommigen vinden dat de gastvrouw te nadrukkelijk aanwezig is, en ja, dat is persoonlijk, want ik ben het er niet echt mee eens. Ik waardeer het juist heel erg en het is voor ons één van de redenen dat we er steeds terugkeren. Het geeft ons een vertrouwd gevoel. Ik zie het als belangstelling tonen naar je gasten toe, en vond het ook leuk dat ze ons de 2de keer dat we er kwamen ook herkende, terwijl er toch enkele maanden tussen zaten, waar maak je dat tegenwoordig nog mee?

In veel restaurants voel ik me maar een nummer op zo'n avond, die indruk heb je nadien niet als je bij Agadir hebt gegeten. Dat hun gasten van heinde en verre komen, al jaren lang trouw zijn aan hen, zegt al genoeg denk ik. Ook word je hier absoluut niet weggekeken als het al wat later wordt. Beide keren hebben we nog even gezellig nagezeten met de kok, en gastvrouw. Hardwerkende eerlijke mensen met heel veel hart voor hun zaak. Niet uit winstbejag, maar met heel veel liefde voor het vak.

Cijfer voor de sfeer: 10, ik voel me er thuis.

De prijs/kwaliteitverhouding is goed. Als je voor een dubbeltje op de eerste rang wilt zitten kun je beter een plate bij een cafetaria bestellen, maar als je voor versheid en heerlijk eten gaat in een heerlijke ontspannen sfeer, ben je hier op het goede adres!

Cijfer een 9, is gewoon heel goed als je kijkt wat je voor je geld krijgt.

Ja, het zal jullie al opgevallen zijn, wij hebben dit restaurant en deze liefdevolle mensen hoog in het vaandel, en zullen er ook zo lang het nog kan (ze zijn idd "op leeftijd", dus je weet maar nooit wanneer ze er mee stoppen) geregeld terug keren.

(en nee, ik heb geen aandelen in de zaak mochten jullie dat na deze "reclameboodschap" denken ;-))
