The restaurant is located aboard old railway carriages. You need to be able to walk short distances or be able to be helped aboard. The wheelchairs can roll right up to the carriages, but access to the hall with the Steam Engines. Access to the musea and places visited in Medemblik may be limited too. You need to be able to sit in another seat then your wheelchair, but check with the organisation what's possible. The toilets are simple train toilets, which rock you around when moving! When you come by train or bus, you need to cross a bridge over the railway tracks and its not suited for wheelchairs. You can get there by taxi (when they want to drive less then 1km) or walk around via the railway crossings, which is about 1000 to 1200m. I have been there with my brother when he was still dependent on his wheelchair, but he could walk when supported and could be helped aboard. Because of that there was no trouble at all.

Description

This restaurant is located aboard railway carriages pulled by a steam locomotive. While you enjoy your dinner the train moves from Hoorn to Medemblik and back, going through the cities, villages and fields of West-Friesland on the old route.

Before you go you get the chance to have a look inside the hall where several locomotives are stored. They are all in working condition and are used every day in the summer season for trips to Medemblik without the restaurant. After a visit to the sign house the train leaves.

It stoppes at a station along the way to give people a chance to look inside the locomotive itself.
In Medemblik you either get a guided tour trough the city, or visit a church, or visit the bakery museum.
All food is served aboard the train.

During the trip you can enjoy the view outside and stand on the open balconies.

The fixed price including, transport, the menu and a welcoming drink (excl. other drinks) is 70 euro per person. Kids' menu is 43,50 euro.

Diner Cheque and Nationale Horecabon are accepted.
Follow the signs for 'Transferium', its the guarded parking area at which the station is located.
