Restaurant/Bistro Oorlam is really The Best

Really had a great meal.
Ingredients, atmosphere, service, presentation, cutlery ... everything was good. Even the side dishes (chickory, potato slices and a pear) were so good that everything got eaten.
I myself had the smoked trout and salmon for a starter, the haunch and the bavarois of wood berries with grapefruit ice cream and aniseed sauce.

Service was friendly, correct and the proposed wine selection was good.

And yet I have three remarks:
1. I had wonderful dishes with explicit tastes. Yet a lot of it was annuled by people smoking (all tables were taken). How smoke can spoil your taste.
2. As I mentioned already; all tables were taken. With cosiness comes noise. I thought that the sound insulation was insufficient.
3. When you come in, the coat rack is directly in front of you. This rack is shielded from the guests by a curtain. It disturbs nobody. But neither can anyone mind the coats. Any thief can disappear within 10 seconds with umpteen coats, without anybody noticing. Around the corner the thief can strip the coats from all their valuables. The only signal was the moving of the curtain when the thief opened the door.

But again: it was really super. There was a good ratio between quality and price.

Ingredienten, sfeer, service, presentatie, bestek....alles was goed. Zelfs de bijgerechten (lof, aardappelschijfjes en stoofpeertje) waren zo goed, dat alles werd opgegeten.
Ik zelf had als voorgerecht de gerookte forel & zalm, de reebout en de bosvruchtenbav. met grapefruitijs en anijssaus.

Bediening was vriendelijk, secuur en een goed wijnadvies.

Toch heb ik drie opmerkingen.
1. Ik had heerlijke gerechten met uitgesproken smaken. Toch werd veel teniet gedaan, doordat (alles tafels waren bezet) er werd gerookt. Wat kan rook toch je smaak bederven.
2. Zoals ik al aangaf, waren alle tafels bezet. Met zo'n gezelligheid, komt ook veel geluid. De geluidsisolatie vond ik onvoldoende.
3. Bij binnenkomst, is er meteen het jassenrek. Dit jassenrek wordt voor de mensen aan tafels afgeschermd met een gordijn. Niemand heeft er dus last van. Maar niemand kan ook op de jassen letten. Als een dief kwaad wil, is hij binnen 10 seconden met tig jassen verdwenen, zonder dat iemand dat heeft gezien. Om de hoek zal de dief de jassen strippen van waardevolle spullen. Alleen het opbollen van het gordijn, wanneer de buitendeur wordt geopend geeft een signaal.

Maar nogmaals... het was echt super. De kwaliteit en prijs waren in verhouding.]    [16 Mar 2004 03:11:55]
