A Taste of the Seventies? Ruby's in Camden is well established - at least 15 years - and has managed to step out of normal time. It has a vaguely hippy feel to it, which seems to affect all the staff. Urgency? forget it. Hurry? best not. All the time in the world? you're welcome! I would only add that the staff are polite, considerate and you somehow get to realise that it really is your problem! The menu shows great imagination, especially the vegetarian dishes (clearly indicated on the menu). For the omnivores, the food is wholesome with a 'homecooked' touch. If you've read this far - you should be at Ruby [01 Feb 2000 17:01:35]

A place with a difference... We stumbled upon the Camden Kitchen quite by chance...liked the look of it and thought the prices very reasonable, so we went in. The atmosphere was congenial and the waiter/waitresses prompt in attending to us, friendly and pleasantly jokey without being overboard. Liked the decor; particularly the furry uplighters, the fireplace and the unmatched and individual furniture. The food was excellent and arrived beautifully presented and hot. Veggie kebabs were just delicious and pudding (banana fritters) was out of this world! My taste buds were thoroughly courted, Mr Chef. We didn't feel we had to wait too long to be served. Only complaints: we seemed to be the only table without a candle (!), my husband thought the beer was a bit watery, and the loos were not great on decor or cleanliness and were not well signed. Other than that, what a fab place! We'll definitely go again. [17 Apr 2004 07:45:17]
