Our worst experience in Alaska This was our third visit here. The first in November of 2002 was quite pleasant, but on our second family visit in December 2002 the young boy (about 14) who waited on us burned me and himself with hot tea. He apologized quickly but that was about it. The food on our second visit was poor, but Chinese being scarce in the MatSu - Valley we gave it another try, hoping that they learned from our previous complaint. We were seated at a dirty table with torn seats. I requested to be seated at a different table, since the restaurant was empty. We were the only guests for lunch. I ordered egg drop soup and chicken chow mein, my husband had szechuan shrimp, and my son the sweet and sour pork. My soup was cool to the touch when it was served. No waiter was around for about 10 minutes. A little kid that helps serving eventually showed up at the table, asking whether everything is ok. We asked him to bring me some warm soup. Within 2 minutes, the child returned with the soup. It was warm but it tasted like nothing and had the color of dishwater. It was thick and gooey, too much cornstarch I guess. My husband said it looked like a bowl of snot. Then our main course was served. The eggrolls were dark brown, hard (as if reheated several times) and dry. All of us had rice with our meals that the menu identified as pork fried rice. It looked and tasted as if it had been leftovers from several days ago. My husband's shrimp were ok, and the vegetables passable, but 20 minutes after the luncheon he started to complain about a stomach ache. My son's pork was dry and luke warm. My chicken - well, I am not sure it if was chicken. Tasted a bit fishy, and the texture was also quite foreign. A woman with a net over her hair came to the table and asked if everything was ok. My son cracked up, I didn't answer and my husband pleaded the 5th. When she demandingly asked a second time, her eyes on me like daggers, I told her that my soup had been served cold and that it doesn't taste any better hot either. She offered a weak excuse ("maybe they didn't turn on the oven?"!!!) but no apology, so I left it at that. She looked threatening. We left, tipped the little kid with a dollar and a half, and vowed -just like the last time- never again! Too bad there is no competition in this town - people will always stop by and try this place, but I hope some check here first. Folks, go to Eagle River, 20 minutes south of Palmer, with some really decent Chinese places. You can do without the stomach problems and the nasty ambiance and attitude of this restaurant! Chinese just like the real thing I could almost believe that they learned to cook chinese food in a tarp stall on some roadside in China. The food is much like what I used to see served in roadside stalls in Korea, though less tasty.
This is not the worst Restaurant I've ever eaten in, not even the worst in America, but the other one is closed now, so I gues it's the worst one still around. makes one wonder why.
And the kids working there, thats a Chinese tradition too, I think. [31 Jan 2006 01:36:25]

Fair, but could be better The food is about average, it could be better. It is served hot, and it is always fresh. the soups aren't that great, but the sweet and sour pork, and the spring rolls are delightful. The service takes a bit, but they are very friendly. They are also very helpful. I have been to better restaurants, but for the valley, this is very good. [21 Nov 2006 22:10:43]
