Early Bird Values We recently visiyed my parents in Lake Havasu City and took them to dinner at Krystal's. They like to eat early so we were able to enjoy the restaurant's excellent early bird specials (4 to 6 p.m.) As a former restaurant reviewer for daily newspapers in Southern California and Oregon, I found the quality and value at Krystal's was first-rate. Prime rib, though not as sizable as the regular dinner portions, was certainly ample and cooked a perfect medium rare. My wife enjoyed four VERY jumbo shrimp, again perfectly cooked with just the right amount of light breading. My parents' enjoyed a half-rack of succulent barbecued ribs (tangy, but not overly spicy hot) and most, fresh fish (and chips -- steak fries, actually). Salad greens were fresh -- blue cheese dressing was the only (slight) disappointment -- somewhat bland and VERY FEW chunks of cheese. Small, but decent wine selection and fairly priced. Stemware could use improvement, but I guess Havasu is not known as a wine geek's destination of choice!
Overall, very good food at nice prices -- even the regular menu is not overly pricey. For the four of us, our dinners with a bottle of Chandon brut and tax came to $83.60. Very pleasant atmosphere and attentive service. We'll definitely return to Krystal's on our next visit! [07 Jun 2005 01:02:45]
