HORRIBLE!!! I would first like to say that I have been in the restaurant business for 20 years and have always taken pride in the level of customer service I have given over the years. I always believed it was my job to make each and every customer that walks through the door have the most pleasureable experience possible. Zipps Sports Bar and Grill absolutely does NOT share in this belief. A group of us went there for the Super Bowl and we were harassed the whole day. They had this policy about not pulling tables together unless everyone from your party was there. This battle went on ALL DAY. Even as people arrived and we pulled tables together, we were still harrassed. The behavior of the manager and the floor manager that day was appauling to say the least! While one of my brother's friends was once again being harassed by the "obviously too immature for a management position" floor manager, she said to John that if he were in the business he would understand why we were being harassed so. I said that I had been in the business and that she was being totally unreasonable. I couldn't make this up if I tried....the fourteen year old floor manager actually said to me, "I'm not talking to you!" It gets better! She then says to John, "As soon as the game starts I want all of these people in their seats!" That is when John said, "What are we in kindergarten." All of the seats at our table were filled. Some were socializing, and some were playing shuffleboard. Please keep in mind that we have been ordering drinks and food and had spent over $300 at this point.
I know what you are thinking, why didn't we just leave. That is what I was trying to get the group to do the entire day but I was told that people were meeting us there and we might not get seats somewhere else. I would have rather stayed home than put up with the aggravation and the horrible treatment dished out by Zipps.
The best part is, the Scottsdale police were waiting for us out in the parking lot in case we gave them a hard time about leaving after the game. It was obvious that they knew they had provoked us to the breaking point but our breaking point was just to leave this dive. Everyone in our group is a professional in some capacity and possesses too much class to lower ourselves to the level of the low-class management at Zipps. My guess is that they have provoked people to violence in the past and that is why they called the police.
This establishment has so much to learn about not just how to treat a customer but how to treat another human being. When a customer walks through the door they are just looking for the basics...good food...good drink but most importantly of all...FRIENDLY service. Take my advice and stay away from this hostile place. These people are nuts!!!
PS I would like to add that our waitress was doing her best to take care of us and would have been able to do her job if management had just left her alone about the table situation. [09 Feb 2004 11:39:36]
