Good Food. The food is good and the portions quite nice. Service can sometimes be slow when they are busy. [25 Jan 2006 16:02:22]

Full of Lard When visiting HSU over Memorial Day weekend, my weary college-bound son, my daughter, and I stumbled upon Luzmila's. Being Mexican food aficionados, we decided to give it a try. It looked cute enough, and the wine margarita was decent. However, I was completely shocked when I asked the server if lard was used in the dishes. I was told that everything had lard - that it was impossible to order anything without it. I was also told that all authentic Mexican food is made with lard. While I begged to differ (being someone who is very well-acquainted with Mexico and healthy Mexican cuisine), I held my tongue and did not order anything. My children each ordered a meat dish (They aren't as paranoid about lard.). Neither one could finish. They said the food was terrible! This restaurant was a huge disappointment. I could not believe that a restaurant in the health -conscious area of Humboldt could be so unhealthy. The food was bad, the attitude worse, and the experience horrendous! I do NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. Next time we are there, we will be looking for a better Mexican restaurant, where you don't have to clog your arteries to enjoy Mexican food! The Best Mexican Food in Arcata! The service was fast and SUPER friendly! Excellent food in a beautiful atmosphere. If you go to only 1 Mexican restaurant in Arcata, make it this one! [02 Jul 2007 17:46:23]

Friendly Servers and Great Food. The prompt and friendly service makes the experinece have a very 'homey' feeling about it- even for me, coming from the Palm Springs area, being so far away from home for college, and used to the generic service offered very widely where we used to eat regulary back home. As soon as you walk through the door, they ask how many people- and as long as your not over 6 or 8 (I forgot which)- they tell you 'Choose wherever you want to sit.' I liked that part.
