I'm not the sushi expert but my friend who is swears that Kijima's is THE place to eat sushi in Fresno & Clovis. All I know is, everything was prepared well, fresh and the only things I didn't like were because of the flavors of the fish, not because of the preparation. [26 Feb 2000 05:22:02]

Kijima's is better than the best I have traveled all over California and have found very few Japanese and sushi restaurants that meet Kijima's standards. Rivaling the eloquent Japanese dining in far larger cities, Kijima's is without a doubt a hidden treasure of Fresno/Clovis. "Jack" Kijima is a master of his craft and an excellent host. What the location lacks in traditional Japanese beauty, the food and service more than make up for. [27 Feb 2000 00:40:35]

World's greatest sushi Wow what can I say that most of Fresno/Clovis doesn't already know. Jack Kijima makes incredibly good food. The only thing lacking at Kijima is an authentic atmosphere; service is great, food is great. I only hope it doesn't get too packed with other sushi eaters. [27 Feb 2000 21:13:25]

Not highly recommended Well, I'm not sure what sort of Japanese food the previous reviewers consider Japanese, but the food we had there was not great. It was edible, but certainly not what I would call authentic Japanese. Being Japanese, I know I can expect a lot from restaurants! We had a party of 8 and we all ordered various dishes. I had the B Box dinner and other people had sashimi, which was okay. The cuts there are on the slim side - as far as sushi cuts go. The rice was dry and mushy, not authentic, but the miso-shiru wasn't too bad. The service was ok. We went on a Saturday evening (early) so they weren't very busy. But the wait staff was not very personable, I'd call them almost irritated and annoyed. There were quite a few elderly people with us and they all started ordering at the same time, because they couldn't hear the other ordering ;) and the waitress made a point of sighing and saying she could not hear any of us because we were all talking to her at once. Not that this is a bad thing, but when said with attitude, it's not a good thing either. The bill came to a bit over $130.00, which isn't too bad considering how many people were in our party. However, I would have gladly paid a bit more for better food and service. I choose this restaurant based on the previous reviews. But I have to say, I was not impressed. The atmosphere is not authentic, and depending on what you consider authentic, there was not a single Japanese person there serving/making the food. I am going to try Miso on Clovis Avenue the next time we're here. Hopefully, we'll have better results! [08 Jul 2006 22:31:54]

A taste of Japan If you like wildly creative rolls with playful names, you may not be impressed with Kijima. But if you've eaten sushi in Japan, where the focus is on ingredients, you'll like Kijima. The decor isn't anything special, but Kijima-san is a real Japanese sushi chef. Let him choose for you. [12 Jul 2007 15:01:07]
