I think the food is very very good, but the service is really really bad. Last time I went there, there were bugs in the food, I didn't bother to even talk to the manager, because he doesn't care much about customers, all he does is walk around and look around, whenever I raise my hand for help, he walks away.    [12 Apr 2004 23:14:16]

Poor Service, Good Food, Poor Presentation.
We decided to try ABC Seafood after driving by it often to visit other nearby restaurants. Upon seeing the menu, we realized that this restaurant was one of the pricier Chinese restaurants we have been to and expected great food/presentation for the price.

Looking around at the other guests' food selections, we did notice that their entrees were presented quite beautifully.

We decided what to order, and it took us more than a few minutes to flag someone down to take our order. They were "sold out" of the first two items we asked for, which already dampered our mood, so we ended up only ordering three items: honey walnut prawns, black mushrooms with mustard greens, and house special pan-fried noodles (which the waitress described to us simply as "fried noodles with mixed vegetables, meat, and seafood"). After taking our food order, the waitress left immediately, without asking us what we wanted to drink. True, we already had tea at our table, but we usually like to ask for something more. It took us a few more minutes to flag down a busboy who could bring us some water.

(Throughout the course of the meal, no one came by to refill our water. I had to flag another busboy down so I could request a refill, and even then, he did not refill my husband's glass -- I suppose because he had not asked?)

When the food arrived, one thing we noticed was that the presentation was quite awful compared to some of the plates we had noticed at the nearby guests' tables. There was no garnish, unlike what we saw on the other tables, and the plates were plain (completely unlike the decorative plates we saw elsewhere). The honey walnut prawns were not arranged nicely -- it looked like the chef had just thrown the food on the plate and didn't care what it looked like.

We wouldn't have been so upset about the lack of presentation if we hadn't noticed how beautiful entrees looked on other guests' tables. We couldn't figure out why ours were so different and can only assume that it is because we weren't regulars? Or that perhaps we were only a party of two compared to some of the other larger parties that were there?

That said, the honey walnut prawns were delicious, as were the black mushrooms with mustard greens. Both dishes had ample amount of sauce, but it was not overwhelming. The pan-fried noodles came drenched in a brown sauce similar to the mustard greens, and though it was not what we expected (we wanted dry noodles), we were pleasantly surprised that again, the sauce was light and flavorful -- not too strong, salty, or spicy as you might expect from a brown sauce.

After we finished our meal, it took us some more moments to flag down someone (a busboy) to pack our food and bring us our check. (I have to note that very often, we could not find any of the wait staff on the floor -- only the bus staff, who were much more attentive, which is not saying much.) When he returned with our packed food, he brought us out a complimentary dessert of red bean soup. I can't comment properly on this item, as sweet bean soup isn't really our "thing", but the few sips of it I had tasted okay.

Needless to say, we don't plan on going back there because of the lack of service. Though our dishes tasted good, they were a small sample of the menu, as they didn't have two of the dishes we were going to order. We don't recommend going back there unless you like poor service and being treated differently from the rest of the guests.    [24 Dec 2004 11:18:11]

Victim of Its Own Success, Bad Service
Food (taste)
Dishes are well prepared, and served hot. This restaurant specializes in Hong Kong (and Cantonese) style seafood, ranging from simple prawns and fish, all the way up to abalone and live lobster. Many other specialties such as frog and BeiJing duck are available as well.

Food (presentation)
The garnishings and arrangement of dishes is pretty good, arguably about the best among Chinese restaurants in the city of Milpitas, CA.

Service
This area has gone down from good to very bad. Service used to be quick and attentive (for which they used to charge 16% of your bill AFTER sales tax, effectively making it 17%, for large parties).
Unfortunately this restaurant is now catering mainly to large private events. Every weekend evening there seems to be a loud wedding, making dining and conversation mutually-exclusive.
In my last visit, the manager refused to let us order (among other things) a pre-set menu for 8 people, pointing out that we had 10 people in our table and requiring us to order a much more expensive (and less desirable) pre-set menu. Absolutely OUTRAGEOUS; this establishment has lost the business of my whole family.    [05 May 2006 21:58:19]

We won't go again
We used to go all the time for Sunday morning dim sum. The food was hot, tasty, and reasonably priced. The waitstaff were never particulary pleasant, but at least they would show up occasionally. The last two times we've gone the food is lukewarm, the waitstaff unhelpful, and the food isn't the quality it used to be. We ordered a noodle dish and it took forever to come, and when it did the waitress carried it from table to table, trying to find who ordered it.    [25 Feb 2007 16:28:38]
