Slow Service - The Food Makes it Worthwhile
After an hour from our original reservation time, we were finally seated, handed our menus and a basket of warm bread. Even more time elapsed between taking our drink orders (the mojitos are great) and food order-taking. It's a good thing the food at Garibaldi's is good.

With pastas, paella, wood-fired pizzas, and various roasted meats this place is very California cuisine. The asparagus and pancetta cooked in chili oil (around $9) was worth waiting the 30 minutes for (maybe it was because I was famished at this point.) The asparagus was cooked perfectly (not too soggy) and the pancetta was delicious. The oven roasted chicken entree was moist and flavorful but could have benefitted from arriving closer to the appetizer.

Despite the less-than-satisfactory wait time, service, and noise level, Garibaldi's is a favorite place to go because their food and art decco/industrial decor are aces.

Be prepared to spend up to $50 a person and speak loudly. Oh, and do try the budino.    [02 Jun 2002 13:36:55]
