Description
Located in a small tucked-away corner of Costa Verde Mall. This is not one of the Sammy's full-sized restaurants--there are no facilities for pasta here. Pizzas and salads are the main food.

Fast The pizza crust at Sammy's has to be one of the best I've ever tasted. I never eat the crust but at Sammy's I make an exception. They are 10 inches round gourmet pizzas. My favorite is the Margherita. On this pizza there is no sauce, just fresh sliced tomatoes on mozzarella topped with basil. It's excellent! All the pizzas are cooked in the wood burning oven which really enhances the taste. California casual is the atmosphere, with quick, easily prepared food and good service. 5 [01 Dec 1999 16:57:16]

Worst Pizza Ever This place is really bad. I make better pizza at home on english muffins. Acidy and simple tomato sauce with a sour aftertaste. Bland and ordinary crust - In fact the same goes for all the toppings on the "new york style" pizza i ordered. Bland peperoni, sausage and cheese. Lobster bisque soup seemed canned with all the preservatives and chemicals that go with that process. I can only imagine it comes in 5 gallon cans from the corporate warehouse. Salad was ok, but would have been better if the recipe they use for red wine vinegarette had more imagination than just red wine vinegar and oil. I don't think they even added salt and pepper to it. Pizza is among my favorite things to eat, and i've had pizza from all over the country and usually never leave disappointed. Some pizza is better than others, and some are really superb. This was a very rare experience where i left confused and surprised - i really was expecting it to be better than little caesars. [04 Jan 2004 04:18:57]

Lame but edible pizza Sammy's has a fantastic reputation in San Diego, but if you're serious about pizza you'll go elsewhere. If Californians want the rest of the world to stop ridiculing them about their taste in food, they should start by abandoning places like Sammy's and California Pizza Kitchen, which are grossly overpriced and way down in the pizza heirarchy. These places serve circular food, not pizza. There *is* excellent pizza in San Diego, but this is not the place. I live across the street from Sammy's and yet rarely go there, and usually only because someone else wants to. [21 Jul 2005 18:19:34]
