awesome & authentic food, service While I have not yet travelled to Italy, I can verify that Macaroni's Sciue Sciue emboides the reputable excellency of Italian food, hospitality and service. While I am also not a certified food critic, I have been eating Italian food my entire life, at home and at various established restaurants in San Francisco's North Beach. Therefore, I feel fully qualified to say that Macaroni's is the most authentic Italian experience one can enjoy dining in the heart of San Francisco's North Beach. As I was graciously greeted by Mario, I sat comfortably inside where the shape of the restaurtant is as cozy as an Italian villa itself. The walls are painted to picture outdoor scenes and ivy. Immediately I was served bread with olive oil, of course, and poured a fizzy mineral water. The menu is in Italian, yet the pasta, pizza, and meat dishes are recognizable as well as savory. The minestrone soup is served hot and flavorful, with vegetables, italian herbs and olive oil. The pizza crust is delightful paper thin and with red sauce and garlic. The pasta was accompanied with a nicely blended red sauce--a generous portion. To top of my meal I had a frothy cappucino and dessert--ask for Mario's family special and you will be enchanted. The hospitality and service added to my positive and rewarding experience in this Italian haven, as the waiters were extremely delightful to listen to and helpful with menu selections. I'll get to Italy someday--for the meantime, I recommed stepping into Macaroni's to enjoy the atmosphere for a few hours during lunch. [06 Feb 2001 22:35:01]
