A Hidden Treasure in Castle Rock Shhh! It is unfair to keep this delightful place as a hidden treasure, but it is tempting. After all, There are so many pleasant details throughout the entire experience from the moment you sit down (I asked for a specific bottle of wine and, although they did not have the label I requested at the time, it magically appeared when we returned the following time) to the finale of the most incredible creme brulee this side of Provence. Romantic, charming, and undoubtedly one of the best 'finds' in the area. Would recommend if you want to impress the boss at lunch, or charm the lover at dinner. [28 Sep 2000 21:03:29]

It has it all! Augustine Grill is a treasure hidden on a street corner in Castle Rock. Decor is fabulous, service is impeccable, and the food is outstanding. The staff puts your dining experience together from the minute you arrive until you leave - happy. Prices are less than you would expect for the caliber of cuisine and service. [30 Apr 2002 12:45:23]

A Hidden Jewel The Augustine Grill is Castle Rock's hidden jewel. Everything from the service to the food was impeccable. I recommend going on a Friday or Saturday evening where they have musicians perform for quest on their outside veranda. [11 Jun 2003 15:14:18]

Cozy but Elegant Great food in a cozy atmosphere. Food is quite good. Nice spot for a relaxing or romantic dinner. Dishes are pleasingly prepared and the service is very good. Very relaxing dining experience. You will need reservations. I'm a bit of a Creme Brulee snob and theirs rates in my top ten. Probably the best in Colorado. [17 Sep 2003 22:18:53]

What a Find!!! We were going to go to the "other wonderful restaurant" in Castle Rock to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. Instead, we decided to try the charming Augustine Grill on Wilcox we had passed many times. So glad we did! The visual treat of the exterior and interior are a wonderful hint at things to come. Our waiter, I believe his name was Dwayne, was the epitome of a professional server. He was humorous, extremely knowledgeable about the dishes and wines offered, but not over-bearing and clingy. I liked his honesty. We passed on an appetizer but sampled the Caesars and spinach salads before our main meals. Both were superb, especially the Caesars. The main dishes we had were the Augustine Duet and the seared sesame encrusted tuna steak. The combination of flavors melded deliciously with the wonderful Australian Riesling to wash them down. We don't usually indulge in dessert but *had* to have some. The creme brulee was as good as one I had at the Culinary Institute in St Helena, California with the added bonus of raspberry. Our waiter graciously offered my husband a complimentary sample of a 30 year old Port to accompany his chocolate torte. It did indeed enhance the chocolate flavor! The freshly brewed coffee was rich and smooth. The entire experience took about 2 hours and 45 minutes for three of us...don't come here for "fast food". A dining experience of this caliber must not be rushed so plan accordingly. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and service. This was truly a memorable experience and we will be back. [02 Jun 2006 12:47:02]

Why all the fuss? I've been to the Augustine Grill a total of four times. You'd think I'd learn from past mistakes, but I'm a firm believer in second chances (and third and fourth, apparently). This is NOT the place to go with a group. Twice I've been with a group of girlfriends, once with my husband, and once for lunch. The service in the first three instances was not just bad, but rude. On one occasion, my party was rushed into making entree selections because we were told the restaurant was preparing to close, then the server made a very rude comment about the town of Castle Rock! The only positive experience I've had was lunch--the gardens are gorgeous and the server was excellent. May I be sexist enough to suggest it was because this was my only experience with a female server? I was even disappointed when I went with just my husband--slow service, not very attentive, over-cooked meat. This place is NOT the best place in town, and I won't return for dinner. DISCRIMINATES AGAINST CHILDREN 8/23/07 While eating there with my 2 children and a friend with her daughter, I overheard our waiter and the owner talking about our table and how they should "hang a sign on the door stating no kids allowed" and that our kids were making a mess, which they were not.
I approached the owner and asked if he had a problem with my children, he coldly responded "not yet". He was appalled that would we bring our children into his restaurant. I have never been so offended, hurt and treated so poorly before. [27 Aug 2007 01:30:32]
