Description
The Blue Smoke Grill is in the northeastern corner of Wintonbury Mall. The space has been attractively redone, and the restaurant offers dining areas separated from bar area. The dinner menu includes a broad range of seafood, poultry, ribs, steaks, and salads, and an interesting range of appetizers. The luncheon menu offers more than two dozen different sandwiches, hot plates, salads, and appetizers. Probably the best overall description is contemporary American grill.

Excellent Food and Service I recently had surprise visitors and took them to Blue Smoke for dinner. We had the Fisherman's Cioppino, Baby Back Pork Ribs, and the Sushi Grade Ahi Tuna with appropriate wine or beer.
After dinner we had an extended and enjoyable discussion over dessert and coffees. The food and service were excellent. There was only one service error over a long and leisurely dinner, and that was promptly corrected and compensated. [16 Mar 2006 13:57:23]

Best new spot in Bloomfield After reading the recent reveiws featured in The Hartford Courant and The Advocate, three of my friends and I decided to try out Blue Smoke on a Saturday night. The food was fresh and the portions were plentiful.
I have to say that I was very impressed. The food, the ambiance, and the service were fantastic. I was impressed with how the place was re-done, as it used to be WB Codys. This new atmosphere was much classier and more inviting.
I tried their chop salad as a starter, which was filling and delicious. As my entree, I tried their osso bucco short ribs, which were one of their specials that night. The meat was slow roasted, and very tender and flavorful. It was an interesting twist on osso bucco, which are usually a veal shank. My friends got the scallops, which were equally fantastic. For dessert, we split the banana bread ice cream sandwich, which I think I could eat every day for the rest of my life. It was not too sweet, as I usually find many desserts to be nauseating. It was just the right mix of fruit, ice cream, and caramel.
Their bar is also very impressive, mahogany and stretching on into the back of the restaurant. They have an impressive wine list, and martinis as well. Their signature martini, the Blue Smoke martini, was fabulous.
I recommend this place for a classy Saturday night out. [31 Jan 2006 23:37:26]

classy and great food! It is nice to have this upscale in quality but affordable in price for what they have to offer. I wish there were a few more vegetarian offerings, but even so a vegetarian can dine here very carefully. The filet mignon was the best I ever had. The wine list rocks, with many good by the glass wines, too. Lunches are quick and easy but substantial and good. I get the soup and salad combos often, very good spinach salad. The fallen angel chicken wings are unique and perfectly accompanied with a very smoky tasting bacon ranch - great for lunch or an after work snack. Sweet and not too hot but hot enough! Every time I am there I see people ordering the mussels and a variety of other seafood dishes which look great and I have asked people at the bar how they like them, and the reviews are great. The drinks I see floating around there are top class although I am a wine drinker, it appears the bar staff is top shelf so to speak in their service and their talent. All of the staff are friendly, fast and have good suggestions at night and day - regardless of how much you are ordering. Desserts so far, are okay. I liked the creme brulee - very good. I had it twice. Great coffee too... my only thing I did not like was that they serve amazingly fresh bread, crusty hot and in tiny loaves but with butter pats that are cold. Warmer butter in a crock or scented butter would be nice to compliment the bread. The soup of the day all month so far has been a warm and spicy chili which is awesome. All good news from me! I am glad they are here. [26 Jan 2006 01:02:59]

great bar I visited Blue Smoke after work with friends, we decided to eat at the bar. It's a huge mahogoany bar beautifully decorated. They served a full menu from which we ended up trying the calamari, Caesar salad, ribs and the lobster pasta. We all agreed it's a must place to visit on a regular basis. Ask for Peter G; the service was first rate. [23 Jan 2006 22:13:56]

Hottest new spot in the area I cannot say anything negative about Blue Smoke, the new bar and grill in Bloomfield. It is by far the hottest new spot in the area. Even if you are not from Bloomfield, it is worth traveling for. [29 Nov 2005 21:41:37]

Not A Place For A Quick Lunch Stay away from this place if you have any time constraints. Normally, this type of restaurant caters to the business crowd, and understands your limited lunch "hour". Blue Smoke did not.
Three of us went at lunch time. When we were there on a Wednesday, we arrived at 11:45. We ordered chicken wings as a starter. That got to the table about 15 minutes after we placed our order. One person ordered soup, and the soup came out about 15 minutes after the wings. Finally, about an hour after we entered the restaurant, our entrees arrived.
The food itself was decent. The wings were crispy, but not very spicy. The person who ordered the crawfish chowder said it was good. Two of us ordered Philly cheese steaks (decent) and one had Jambalaya (OK). The bill, with one iced tea, one coffee, and one hot tea, was $58 before tip.
The manager was wandering the restaurant asking how things were. When we said "too slow", she apologized saying two waitresses had called in sick. But it was obvious the slowdown was NOT the waitresses. The problem was in the kitchen.
If you have plenty of time, give it a try. If you have time constraints, skip this place. [26 Oct 2005 14:22:10]

The Smoke is building in Bloomfield Blue Smoke restaurant in Bloomfield. Very pleasing to the eye and appetite. The menu is very diverse, something for everyones taste. The best calamari I ever tasted! So tender and not overdone, a nice lite breading and two sauces to please your taste buds. Not only is the food appetizing but presentation of the dishes is art for the eye. [21 Oct 2005 10:47:30]

Food is good but the service was atrocious I admit my expectations were high based on reviews I had read. The food was very good, not spectacular. The service was terrible. Once two different people have told you that bread is being brought (we did not ask), and one of them has re-confirmed that it is being brought, it ought to be arrive, for heaven's sake! And warm, not cold. We forgot to ask for the specials and so we were never told them, although we did get to overhear them being told to subsequent diners. If you TELL me you are going to get a knife, or a straw, please do so within a reasonable time (before you forget). And finally, please don't clear our plates until all of us have finished eating. Not Impressed!!! We generally do not try a new restaurant during the first month of operation. Blue Smoke Grill has been open for over 6 weeks now and one would think the kinks were workrd out by now. NOT SO!
I ordered the beef barley soup which was served promptly but not very hot. I was also left to deal with soup without a soup spoon. The teaspoon at the table was too short to be easily used.
My lady friend had a Caesar salad which was quite good. We both had strip steaks. Mine was good although it had the texture of a chemically tenderized steak from Ponderosa. My friend's steak was very under cooked and had to be sent back. She had also ordered the sweet potato fries instead of the hash. She was served hash. When the sweet potato fries finally came out they were stone cold. Her sauteed brussels sprouts were hard as stones as well. Our server explained several times that he was having issues with the kitchen that night. I would agree wholeheartedly.
We were very disappointed and will not be going back for some time to come. Hopefully they can get these issues resolved. If not they are doomed to the same fate as the previous establishment... mediocrity followed by failure. [18 Dec 2005 23:11:19]

A bit of Manhattan in CT I visited Blue Smoke with another couple and found the restaurant to have all the qualities of dining out in Manhattan. The music was terrific, the ambiance was up beat and the food was terrific. I had the ahi tuna which was delicious. My date and the other couple also couldn't stop talking about this place. We have put it on our must visit list at least once a week. [15 Jan 2006 20:31:45]
