hovering waitstaff but good food
First time to try Bangalore in Fairfield. My friend & I arrived early for dinner & were immediately seated in a cozy table for two by the fireplace. The waitstaff was very friendly at first but their friendliness quickly turned to overbearing & excessive attention. For example, after only one sip of water one of them (& there were at least 8 or so) would quickly come unnecessarily to refill. They seemed eager to remove plates even when we weren't finished. I felt I had to lower my voice during conversation with my friend because of the way they hovered & watched us. It felt like every few seconds somebody else came to the table... it was very distracting. But somehow during all of this we were able to enjoy the tasty food. Good vegetarian selections included the veg platter, mulligitawny soup, & mali kofta. A bit pricey overall but probably in line with local fares. We decided take-out would be the way to go if we were to return to this restaurant because the hovering waitstaff makes for a very uncomfortable dining experience.    [13 Jan 2007 09:53:13]

Bad service bad buffet great take-out
I find that waitstaff at Indian restaurants in general tend to overdo it with too-frequent refilling of water glasses, but I concur with the reviewer visiting from Boston: the waitstaff at Bangalore hover to a fault. Ironically, though, my first time dining there it took at least 15 minutes to get the check after all of our plates had been cleared; everyone miraculously disappeared. I only went back once after that experience, for their buffet this time. The food wasn't awful, but it wasn't nearly as good as the entrees my companion and I had had previously, nor did it feature many traditional Indian buffet staple dishes. All that having been said, their take-out lunch special is great. For $9.00 you get a healthy portion of a regular entree, papadam, relishes, nan, and sometimes they even throw in a dessert, all of it neatly packed and easy to transport. Highly reccommended for take-out lunch if you live/work in the area.    [17 Jan 2007 12:24:04]

Great service nice food
I am very skeptical about going to Indian restaurants as there are lot of them out there run by Bangladesi and Pakistani restaurants serving in-authentic Indian food. I dared to go to Bangalore only 3 months after it opened. To my surprize the food was good and so was the service. The restaurant was full and staff was friendly (no one hovered around us).
The best part is the entrees which were masala dosas (veg) and tandoori chicken (non-veg). The dessert was kheer (rice pudding) and was nice. The rice pulav was good. The food was very much Indian. I guess they must have a great chef.

Great food
I tend to concur with the reviewers about the hovering staff. As an Indian expat I think this is a cultural phenomenon. They aim to please and dont realize that in the States people want to enjoy food in relative privacy. Overall the food is good. I enjoy the Sunday buffet. The food varies in fare from south indian and north indian dishes which I liked. Oveall pretty decent food in a nice ambience. Nicely stocked bar as well. The breakfast section was very nice as well.    [22 Jan 2007 17:33:13]

One of the rare delicious food
Since The New York Times given them very good review, I went to experience it myself, and you know what? I love the food, the great chef comment wasn't a lie, it's very rare this day to find authentic Indian food. Calamari and Kalmi Kabab flavour was burst into my mouth. Lamb Tamarind and Chicken Vindaloo was tingling my mouth in perfect combination with naan. I'm surprise with the previous review about the staff, their friendly and have excellent knowledge about the food. It's very nice atmosphere and warm welcome. We feel like King and Queen and yet we still have our privacy.    [11 Apr 2007 15:01:23]

Great dinner service and food, great take out, excellent bar selections
My wife and I have lived in Fairfield for about a year and a half now and were searching for good local Indian but to no avail in the immediate area. And then Bangalore came along and we were impressed. We ate in the restaurant first and rather enjoyed the attentive service. They took time to explain the dishes, I don't mind chatting up the waiters because I like to understand what I eat. And the food was great. On par or even better than Bombay up the road in Westport. Take out is great as well. We'll keep coming back for more. P.S., the bar has great premium liquors (Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Baileys (including the new caramel and chocolate mint flavors, etc) to choose from.    [01 May 2007 15:33:54]
