Not wild about Martins It's difficult to pinpoint, because the location is great, the decor isn't bad, the bar in the middle is pretty cool . . . but just didn't do it for me. Food was middle of the road, service stunk, just nothing eye popping when I need either great ambience or food to come back a second time. Too many other great choices on the shoreline. Especially in the new continental category. [28 Feb 2006 17:49:06]

Just OK I am always on the lookout for a good breakfast. I have eaten at Martins for breakfast twice. Once in the summer on the outdoor patio. This was a service nightmare. None of the tables were set up and ready for customers. Once we were seated, the table was not clean, the service people had no idea who was taking care of our table. The manager/owner was clearly agitated with his own staff. Food was just ok. Eggs should always be served on a hot or warm plate. Everything gets cold too quick. Our meals arrived at the table cold. the Toast was dry and uninteresting. The eggs were runny to the point of disgusting. Anyway, my next trip to Martins was much better. We ate inside and had a wonderful Starbucks coffee to start off. The waitress was much more organized and attentive. I ordered an omelette this time (for fear of runny eggs). Enjoyable omelette except for the dry and uninteresting potatoes and AGAIN dry toast. Oh well, it was just ok. [04 Jun 2006 11:07:40]

Really Good I hope no one gets discouraged by the above two reviews. Four of us had dinner Sat. 9/16/06 and after reading the above two reviews, we went with a very critical attitude. However, we were smitten from the start. Dinner was truly awesome from the special bread rolls to the pumpkin creme brulee. Everyone in our party remarked how delicious the food was, how perfectly it was cooked and presented, the beautiful decor, pleasant atmosphere and very attentive waitstaff. I also met friends and family there last summer for lunch, and even at that time we were all extremely impressed. I am aware that even the finest restaurants may have their off days, but my two random experiences at Martin's have been nothing but very, very good. I live about 30 miles from Guilford and will most definitely go back from time to time. It really is a great place, at least for lunch and dinner. [16 Sep 2006 22:10:41]

A Great Place to which I return often I eat at Martin's at least once a week. The breakfasts are terrific - great food at great prices. The waitstaff is wonderful. We always get welcomed with a smile. Marty, the manager, is a great guy and works hard at getting good employees. The new chef is doing a great job with the lunches and dinners in particular. The ambiance is amazing - overlooking the spectacular Guilford Green. The can accommodate large parties, just call in advance. I have enjoyed multiple breakfasts, lunches, and dinners where I have sat and enjoyed conversation for hours and hours. I highly recommend Martin's on the Guilford Green. [21 Sep 2006 15:02:38]
Food: Service: Ambiance: Overall: Recommended Dishes: The Godfather for breakfast. and the Hash and Eggs are great. The 'On the Green Salad with Grilled Chicken' for lunch, and anything on the dinner menu - especially the appetizer dumplings/ravioli.

My favorite local restaurant The headline says it all. Breakfest is excellent by any standard. Lunch is great, and both are very reasonably priced. Dinner is excellent also, though not quite the same value . The place is always busy, but not oppressive. People behave and the noise level is not a problem. And you will not find a better green view or backyard garden view anywhere else. We go there a lot. [27 Oct 2006 12:41:06]

Not reliable I can't bring myself to like this restaurant. It's not bad...it's just not perfect, and the prices are too high to excuse some of the bad experiences I've had.
Maybe it's the fact that the hostess barely notices you when you walk in the door. She spends most of her time talking to other staff and ignoring her job.
Maybe it's that for a hamburger over $10, I don't expect frozen french fries.
Maybe it was the time I ordered a piece of coffee cake - and it was WET. Like it had just been taken out of the freezer and microwaved, and was soggy with melted freezer burn?
The portion sizes are too large to be appetizing, from dinners to desserts.
I've had good things too - sandwiches, soups, salads....and the atmosphere is quite nice...but I'm not going to risk a disgusting meal for the price it's going to cost me. [10 Jan 2007 14:16:35]
