New Haven: Long Wharf
Description
Since 1938, Leon’s Restaurant has been synonymous with New Haven. Family owned and operated, the tradition continues on Long Wharf Drive in New Haven, Connecticut.
Today, Edward E. Varipapa, executive chef and owner, has decided to bring back Leon’s to New Haven, the premier destination for some of the best restaurants on the East Coast. Leon’s will again offer its customers Italian food in a friendly, comfortable, family atmosphere. Leon’s signature dishes, Pane Cotto, Gypsy Chicken, Pork Tenderloin Calabrese, and Squid Steak, just to name a few, will be prominently featured on the menu along with the famous ever changing “Goodie List”.
Leon’s in its new location provides patrons with spectacular water views, ample parking and easy access to both I-95 and I-91.

Exceptional Experience Food is amazing - The menu is unique as it is comfortable. They have a very extensive menu and the additional "Goodie List" (as was explained to me - Their take of a specials list) is in a league of it's own - and is actually what most restaurants have as a daily menu Not only is the food exceptional but, the service is attentive, portions are quite generous. There is safe, secure parking - valet is offered The views from the floor to ceiling windows are really spectacular. One of the few restaurants in the area that can boast a true waterfront view. Great view, great food Loved everything about this place. It was convenient, easy to get to and the food was exceptional. The menu is Italian but does not only serve the traditional items. It is refreshing to see some creativity in a world filled with eggplant rollatini and fried calamari. Although it can never truly compare to the orginal - I think the location, atmosphere and reputation added to the flavor of the food - I think it is better than the original. The menu is creative - The goodie list is where all the "good" stuff is. A visit to Leon's would not be complete without an order of Pane Cotto - well done. Traditional and the best in New Haven. Veal osso bucco was outrageous- mini osso bucco sat atop a creamy rissotto - excellent. As an order went by I realized that it was to large for me to eat as an appetizer and ordered it as my main entree. Small manilla clams add some incredible flavor to the linguine and clams. There were so many interesting items on the Goodie list that I will need to return to try them all - some sounded amazing - contemporary not as traditional - which is a refreshing change to the typical italian menus found in this area- Highly recommended.
