Lovely food, but don't schedule any activities for after dinner The food was creative and attractively served, with a selection of fine wines of varying prices available.
But this was not the meal for someone in a hurry. The meal started off at a slow pace - taking several minutes to get beverages, and over 20 minutes to place our orders. The level of attentiveness of our server dropped off after that, culminating in a 25 minute wait for the bill, after deciding not to order dessert. The service was a disappointing contrast to the wonderful food and pretty, woodland setting. [16 Jun 2000 08:57:49]

Excellent Food and Service Being a foodie I found the menu very interesting and creative. I also found some great selections of half bottles on the wine list. More places should do that.... [25 Jan 2005 10:10:37]

Terrible! We've eaten at many excellent retaurants, but this is definitely not one of them, The setting is nice and the staff is friendly. The food, however, was terrible. We had clams buried in salt, overcooked grey duck with no flavor, tasteless rice, boring vegetables and so-so chocolate cake. Even the red wine was too warm. Why do some restaurants think that 75 degrees is room temperature? To top it off, the waitress asked if we were finished "working" on our dinner(working?). There are many better restaurants in the area and this place needs to get its' act together so that the kitchen complements the inn. [29 May 2005 20:45:45]

Phenomenal We showed up on a Saturday evening in mid October without a reservation. After some clear hesitation on the part of the hostess, we were told we could be seated if we thought we might be done within 2 hours. This was absolutely more than adequate, considering we just showed up. It demonstrated a real attempt on behalf of the hostess to serve us, but ensure her customers with reservations would be served as well.
The food was absolutely delicious from appetizers of fried clams to our entrees of baked chicken and beef tenderloin, and desserts of pumpkin pie and chocolate apricot cake.
The wine selections paired excellently with our appetizers and main courses, with delicious ports to finish the meal. Local CT wines were available, as well as plenty of out of state selections. Having just toured the local vineyards, we were ecstatic to see the local establishments supporting them.
The service was amazingly attentive without being obtrusive to the ambiance. We barely had our empty water glasses set down before someone came to refill.
The pricing was on par, and we hit $200 between the two of us, but it was absolutely worth it. The portions of food were on the smaller side, but this was not to be unexpected from this type of establishment.
We would absolutely head back in the future should we have the chance. [26 Oct 2006 20:39:45]

Over priced, less than mediocre food Very disappointing. We used to love this restaurant. While the decor is still beautiful and the menu descriptions are very interesting, the food is bland and sub-par. We loved the orange scones however! Overall it certainly was not worth the cost (over $100 for breakfast for 2).
Although our intention was to enjoy a leisurely brunch, the wait was excessive. We ended up going into the living room to sit on the couches since it took almost an hour for our meal to arrive after ordering. This was particularly surprising since we were one of only 3 parties seated in the restaurant at the time. [17 Jun 2007 16:49:57]
