Surprisingly Good
Alforno is located in an unassuming strip mall on Route 1 in Old Saybrook. It's not much to look at from the outside, but the decor is interesting and the food (Italian) is really good. The brick oven pizza has a thin crust and is excellent. All of the other entrees I've tried have been delicious and generously portioned. The wine list is quite good. The prices are reasonable. The service is good. What's not to like?

This is a great restaurant for couples, groups of friends, and families. In fact when I've gone, invariably there are well-behaved school aged kids eating nearby.

Count on getting a really good meal--bordering on great--for a reasoable price in a nice atmosphere. Think of a Bertucci's with better, more creative food, better service, a better wine list, and a nicer atmosphere.    [19 Sep 2007 17:57:48]
