Sweet View Especially during a storm. Right on the water, neat old bar, open air, great spot to just unwind...... Haven't sampled much food because the seared ahi and sashimi are all I need!! [27 Dec 2001 18:35:33]

I still dream about this one dish... When we went to the Kona Inn last summer I ordered the Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi.. I haven't forgotten it, and would consider returning just for that dish! [05 Jun 2002 17:05:42]

Good Food - Bad Service Although I enjoyed the food, the service was less than acceptable. The waiter had all the time in the world for the other tables around me (I was dining alone) and none for me. Doubt I will return. [22 Nov 2002 18:26:21]

The Best Place In The World I am 26 years old, and I have been to Hawaii 11 times. I used to go with my grandmother when I was younger, and now I go on a total shoestring budget, and am poor for the rest of the year, but it is worth it.
I remember when my grandmother would take me to the Kona Inn, she loved to point out the fans above (look up if you go into the more "formal" dining area - the fans are great!), and tell me stories about her and my grandfather coming there long ago.
Now that I'm a little older, every time I'm there, I always end up, almost every night, at the Kona Inn. I usually sit in the "casual" area. I love going when it is dark out, the tiki torches are going, the light breeze is blowing, and the ocean can be heard. Me and my boyfriend last trip would go every night, and get a light dinner, a drink, and just sit back and take it in.
When you are sitting there, you KNOW you are in Hawaii. Whenever I think of my past trips, I always think of the Kona Inn.
And the food's pretty good too!! :)
Sometime the service has been a little bad - last time we were there they had some really young girls working who ignored us the whole time we were there - we had to go up and place our orders - and there were hardly any people there that night. They seem to put their worst waitresses and waiters on at night, when the volume is down. During the day though, we've had the best service a restaurant can offer. I think the ambiance makes up for it though. [08 Jan 2003 09:43:08]

Don't miss their Lemongrass-Curry Soup Hmmm, what's this on the menu? Thai Lemongrass Curry Soup. Sounds exotic!
Order the soup. Taste the soup. Wow, nice! Sweet. Flavorful.
Take a few more spoonfuls. There's a small piece of something. Bite down. Wow, hot, but still sweet and flavorful.
Take a few more spoonfuls. More small things. Mouth and throat on fire. Eyes tearing. Sinuses clearer than they've been in ten years. Loving it! STILL sweet and flavorful.
Finish the bowl all too soon. More. Must have more.
Ask the waiter for the recipe, am treated like I'm looking for nuclear bomb secrets.
Ah well, if you ever go, try it! [19 Jan 2003 00:26:31]

Ahhh.... Talk about paradise. I actually had dinner at the Kona Inn on my first night EVER in Hawaii. When I flew in, it was already dark, so I couldn't see much. Then I walked into the Kona Inn and I knew... I truly was in paradise.
Don't forget to have one of those Mai Tais while you're there! :) [06 Feb 2003 19:11:34]

ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LOCATIONS IN THE WORLD!!! I really enjoyed the mai tais! The perfect mixture of everything. You haven't lived unless you've been to the Kona Inn and had a mai tai. [21 Mar 2003 15:55:18]

The Kona Inn, no place like it in the world! The Kona Inn has been a part of my life since I've been about twelve years old and now I am 32. My wife and I just had a son about 8 months ago and and I plan on keeping the tradition going in his life as well. It's just a great place to go and relax with that special someone or family and have a great time. I have never been disapointed while dining there, especially in the dining room at night. The view is spectacular and the food is very reasonably priced. If you only pick one restauruant while you are in Kona, GO TO THE KONA INN, YOU WON'T BE DISAPOINTED! [01 Jul 2003 18:38:39]

Last Night In Paradise My family and I spent 26 days in the Islands. Our last dinner was at the Kona Inn, left for the airport from the Inn. Great memories, great atmosphere, great time. When I think back, the Kona Inn always enters my mind.
P.S. Great sunset from the open windows, our last was seen from our table, but I'm sure not our final. [01 Oct 2003 19:31:19]
