Sit Down, Shut Up & Eat Your Dinner! My wife and I went to Coconuts in April '05 on a Saturday night. We ordered appetizers and dinner at 7:45pm. Appetizer came within 10 minutes and after finishing that we sat unattended until 8:35pm when our main entrees finally arrived. Upon questioning the lateness of the food and having sat for a half hour with nothing to eat and no service from the wait staff we were basically told by the manager on duty and eventually by the owner-Sheila that we would get no consideration and we could eat the food that came and pay for it or she would take it away. We told her she could keep it and left.
It was unbelievable. Never once did anyone apologize for the delay let alone offer a round of drinks or a dessert for our trouble. We did not go in expecting to be able to con free food or drinks from a restaurant. In fact, I have never had to ask for a break because of poor service or a delay in a meal. In practically every other eatery I've been in the staff and management offer what is often more than is necessary to mollify the situation. A simple apology and at least an acknowledgement of the problem would have gone a long way toward Sheila not eating the cost of what would have probably been a $100 dinner bill.
