Poor Treatment and Poor Managment I usually don’t take the time to write something like this yet I feel compelled to this time. We recently visited Maui and had dinner at the Kobe steak house. While I have always enjoyed going here and love the food this past experience has left me feeling less than happy. We had scheduled dinner two weeks in advance and made sure that everything was taken care of. I called two days before dinner to find out that our reservation had disappeared. They created a new one and apologized for any inconvenience. I called the very next day to verify the time and they told me again that they had no reservation for me. I made a new one and explained my concern. The very next night when we arrived they again told me they had no reservation for us. I was a little upset to say the least. When I tried to explain my frustration the hostess told me in a loud and angry voice that it wasn’t her problem and that she didn’t make the reservations and if we wanted to eat there we would have to wait it out. Due to it being my birthday and that it was the height of the season we figured we better just wait it out. 30 min later they were able to seat us. Service was slow and for the most part bordered on rude. Our chef was funny and loved to make you laugh (best part of night). After the dishes were prepared and our chef left my girlfriends meal was overcooked (lobster) It was so rubbery that we asked for a knife to cut it with. Instead of management just getting us a knife or better yet offering to prepare it again they made the chef come back out to the table with his head bowed and asking what was wrong. He quickly cut the lobster into smaller bites and then hurried off to the back room. Extremely embarrassing for us and for our guests. Not to mention for the chef. I have lost all respect for this establishment. When we told the waiter of the problem he explained that sometimes lobster comes out that way and he was sorry. My girlfriend took two bites and could not eat the rest. I have never been treated more poorly in a restaurant then I was on this night. While I may go back to another Kobe I will never again return to the one in Maui. [01 Aug 2003 12:19:19]

Extremely overrated and overpriced. This was our most expensive dinner on the island and also our worst. The serice was bad and the food was worse. Don't waste your time. [09 Jun 2004 21:34:05]

Good entertainment I, unlike the other 2 reviews, liked the place. It was kind of overpriced, but to watch the chef prepare the meal and show us his skills with the cooking utensils made it worth it. The only downside was that for some unknown reason, there was a drip of some kind of oil coming from overhead. It only dripped on me once or twice. I tried to let the host lady know, and she seemed kind of aloof about it. But I think overall, it was a fun experience, and I would definitely go again. My food was great. [04 Feb 2005 18:30:23]

Over rated! This was our fifth night dining in Maui and we were looking forward to another great meal. What a disappointment! We had reservations at 7:30 and were seated promptly. Once seated we waited 45 minutes for the chef to come to our table. The waitress got our order wrong so the chef had to leave the table to get the correct food to prepare. Once he was done cooking everyone's meat he forgot our order and gave our food to someone else. The chef had zero personality and just laughed it off. We do not recommend this place to anyone. The added a 20% gratuity to our bill automatically even though there were just two of us dining. They did not deserve the tip! [08 Dec 2005 19:35:22]

Great Sushi - Reasonable prices Although we only went to Kobe for their sushi it was top notch! the Ahi was fresh and some of the best we've tasted. The salmon was just as good. And, at $10 and $9 respectively, it was worth it! The only drawback was the service. They had one waitress waiting on the entire sushi bar. I can't speak for the Steak House, but the sushi is worth it! [10 May 2006 23:45:30]
