Greek Flavor, Midwest Hospitality
This Cedar Rapids institution tops our list in a town laden with characterless chain restaurants. This family owned and operated establishment livens up any visit to the C.R. area with brilliantly prepared and beautifully plated Mediterranean dishes.

We love to start with the Saganaki, served flaming. Opa! When dining with a larger party, we indulge in the Captain's Dish which includes appetizer sized portions of some of the finest Greek dishes on the menu. Many visits ago, I lost my heart to the Spanakopita, a light flaky filo pastry layered with spinach and feta cheese. Also worth noting are the Midwestern staples like the beef tenderloin and Iowa Chop. We seldom save room for dessert but for real indulgence, don't skip the baklava.

The wine list is sufficient and has been upgraded recently to include some nicely priced Chards, Merlots, and Cabs. The bar serves marvelous martinis which are discounted on Thursday evenings.

The staff are knowledgeable and courteous though on busy weekend nights, they are sometimes stretched a bit thin. The gyro meat entree has been sometimes superb, sometimes sub-par and we have learned not to take the chance but overall, it would be unfair to say that we have ever been seriously disappointed in this lovely little restaurant.    [09 Aug 2005 17:31:07]

Best Greek Food in Iowa
I used to live in Cedar Rapids and I frequently had both lunch and dinner at the Greek Place when I lived there. My husband and I still eat here when we are back in town.    [13 Mar 2007 11:06:34]
