A grand old mansion The house is the show, and the food is great too. I love the steaks, other rave about the fried chicken. This is a place with tempting specials and a solid regular menu. [08 Jul 2002 14:41:41]

My family ate on the patio Monday evening, 6-30-03 for a birthday celebration. Waitress did a great job. Appetizers came quickly. Meal was a little slow and not worth the wait. Fried cod was tasteless...inlaw's grilled chicken salads were served 15 minutes after everyone else had been served and the chicken was not done. They did not eat them and were very disappointed. Daughter ordered a slice of chocolate cake with chocolate icing and it was extremely dry and disappointing. We won't be eating on the patio in the future.
Dining room meals have always been pleasing. Sorry guys... [02 Jul 2003 11:27:15]

African Lobster Tail Everytime I go to the Merrick, I always eat the African Lobster Tail. It is the best that I have ever eaten. Also the escargot is great. The fireplace is the topper to this great meal. [19 Dec 2003 09:33:25]

Great service, great food, great atmosphere! Celebrated my husband's birthday there last night. The service was impeccable. They were extremely busy due to Keeneland sales, but our food arrived piping hot. Our waitress was terrific. There were three of us and all our dinners were excellent, but everyone liked my pork roast with chutney in bourbon sauce best. It was fantastic! And the pineapple bread pudding was heavenly!! A really wonderful dining experience. Very elegant. Our only complaint was the air conditioning wasn't working well enough -- probably due to the big crowd and fact that it's an old house. But it's something they need to check into, as it got a bit stuffy and uncomfortable at times. [22 Jul 2004 01:25:31]

Cucumber Dressing Merrick Inn is my favorite place to eat in Lexington. The second place is Murray's on Harrodsburg Road, which is owned by the same people. I always order the Surf and Turf with corn pudding, a salad with Merrick's very own cucumber dressing, and a great bottle of wine. My next visit, I will try Dede's suggestion: the Pork Roast in Bourbon sauce. Sounds scrumptious.
