Nice atmosphere, very iffy food Metropol has a very nice atmosphere, small, excellent lighting, high ceilings, an exposed brick wall, hardwood floors, white tablecloths and excellent service. The food is another story. We ordered the artichoke pate for an appetizer just because it was the only app that sounded interesting. It wasn't. Very bland and boring. I then ordered the lobster lasagne, supposedly their signature dish. The menu said it was made with home made pasta but it was dried pasta out of a box and was not cooked in salted water. The small amount of lobster in the dish lacked flavor as did the entire dish...almost no sauce ....very disappointing. We also ordered the roast duck which was somewhat of an improvement. The duck was nicely roasted and flavorful but was accompanied by very little sauce and some overcooked rice that was completely devoid of any seasoning. The flourless chocolate dessert was very tasty and the creme brulee was fairly good but not spectacular. The rosemary sourdough bread was very good. Can't reccomend the food here. Classic European Offerings I have had the pleasure of dining at Metropol and many of the other French / European-styled restaurants, and I can say that Metropol ranks in the top 2. The building is the oldest postal building in Lexington, that has been lovingly restored, and seats an intimate 20-30 people. A wide selection of old-world and new-world wines complements the friendly service and outstanding food. [17 Nov 2005 12:19:06]

Nice atmosphere, food didn't impress My friend's boyfriend came into town and she invited my boyfriend and I to dine with them at Metropol.
My boyfriend and I drove around for a very long time trying to find the place because the sign in so miniscule we could not detect it from the road. We finally made it and were taken upstairs and seated.
The tables are very close together and people from the nearby table (one of whom was fairly drunk) decided to strike up a rather loud conversation and not relent for about fifteen minutes until they finally left. He was asking us all kinds of questions that were rather awkward considering my boyfriend and I had just met my friend's boyfriend for the first time. This wasn't the fault of the restaurant, but when there is a lot of open space in the restaurant (as there was that night), it would have been nice if we were seated somewhere a little more private and not directly next to a full table.
The food wasn't very impressive. I had the panini, which was OK. My boyfriend had the calamari, and since he's worked in kitchens before, he identified it as having been frozen and not freshly made. My friend got an expensive vegetarian pasta dish which wasn't anything I couldn't make at home for under $5. Her boyfriend got a rare steak and he says it was good.
Overall it has a nice atmosphere but the food quality is not worth the high price. [14 Dec 2006 12:22:12]
