Classic French and Creole haute cuisine Fine food in romantic surroundings with impeccable service. Expensive, but well worth the cost. Extensive wine list. Magnificent sauces. I've heard people complain that Antoine's is not what it once was but I disagree. The last time I went it was as good as it ever was. The Oysters Ellis, Oysters Rockefeller, Crawfish Cardinal and Crabmeat Ravigote were all divine appetizers. The soft shelled crabs, Pompano Pontchartrain, poulet Rochambeau, tournedos with Bearnaise and Marchand de Vin sauces, green salads and the souffleed potatoes were superb. The wines (suggested by our wonderful waiter) perfectly accompanied the dishes. We were too full to have anything but ice cream with chocolate sauce and coffee for dessert but that, too, was sublime. I plan to go back there every chance I get. [13 Aug 2004 06:07:18]
