Description
Shangri-La specializes in Szechuan and Taiwanese dishes. It is one of only a few, mostly suburban, restaurants in the area offering Northern Chinese/Taiwanese style dim sum dishes on weekends, as opposed to the more familiar Cantonese style.
The decor is plain, but clean, and the tables are fairly closely spaced. The restaurant is not large, and waits are common, especially for dim sum.

Very Authentic Northern Style Dim Sum The food is just like what I had in north China. Some are Taiwanese style which I like. I am glad that I found this place, the other authentic place in Newton is way too crowded.
The only thing I don't like around this place is the ambiance. It looks old. Since I care about food much more than that, I still think it is a good place to go. [23 Apr 2004 15:35:02]

Tasty Chinese Food The food at Shangri-La was excellent and reasonably priced. The portions are generous, especially the soups. Ambiance is lacking, but the service is attentive and the quality of the food more than makes up for the lacking decor. [17 Sep 2004 20:36:49]

Been There 20 Times The best hot and sour soup around, and even the plain white rice is perfectly done every time. The most vast collection of vegetables in various concoctions that I have seen in a Chinese (OK, Taiwanese) restaurant. Be prepared to wait, but the staff is very quick and efficient. Customers seem to "get the message" to leave when they see that the limited space is being filled with the next round of customers, most of whom are Asian, I am pleased to say. [16 Sep 2006 15:30:15]

Good food My husband and I were surprised to find good Chinese food in Belmont. We go on most Sundays. We have yet to try everything, but most things are good. I took my mother and sister there recently. My mother particularly liked the pig's ears. [25 Oct 2006 18:13:23]
