Watch What They Charge YOU! Overpriced. A ripoff. Not worth it. Went in Saturday the 4th of October around 7:00 pm. Had two glasses of wine ($15 each!), a bowl of soup ($8), the calamari appetizer ($8). The bill came to $46, we added $6 for a tip, and afterwards found they'd added an additional $10 tip. Didn't know each glass of wine was $15, and would have ordered something else if I had known. When questioned over the phone about the charges, the staff reply was that they are "fine dining" and we should expect to pay more. Bull. The calamari was rubbery as well. [09 Oct 2003 12:41:55]

Service Awful for the Price I have visited this restaurant several times over the past four years (2000-2004), including twice in the past 12 months, and I'm disappointed to report that the service and quality is declining rapidly. It's possible that this decline correlates with a passing of the baton with respect to day-to-day management that has been taking place between the founder and his young sons. In any case, I no longer find the obsessive compuslsion with service and customer satisfaction that one expects for $100 per person, including food and wine. On my latest trip, a new waitress mis-pronounced and mis-described nearly half of the restaurant's fish selection. Then she failed to bring our wine until after all of the appetizers and salads had been eating. When I complained about the wine delay, the manager/son came to the table to hear my concerns... 10 minutes after we requested him. All of this would be par-for-the-course at TGI Friday's, but at a formerly first-class restaurant which now enjoys thriving profits based on previous service levels, I found the experience highly disappointing. I won't be going back until I read several reviews reporting that The Black Olive has gotten its act together. [22 Mar 2004 13:53:35]
