overpriced, but open late. Its kitchsy. Its expensive. Its not the best food.
But its open really late, which gives it high marks. [05 Aug 2003 15:48:59]

I loved it! I've passed the Paper Moon for years and wondered what it would be like to eat there. I finally went yesterday and found it delightful. There's so much to see, but more importantly, the food was delicious. The atmosphere was casual, to say the least, and we weren't pressed to hurry out. I enjoyed it very much. [29 Jun 2006 18:58:21]

Pricy for Baltimore, but fun and reliable Known for its kitsch decore, the Papermoon Diner has gained a great place in my heart if for no reason than it's the only place that's not a bar and still serving food after 11PM in the JHU/Loyola area, and the manic decor provides something entertaining while waiting to be served.
While it's not the greatest food in the city, I've been with friends multiple times and we've never had a bad meal. The menu's upscaled a bit over the last couple years, which has probably helped the general quality of the place as well as inflating the prices. It's quite veggie friendly (I'm a veg and have been able to get something different each time with no complaints), and carnivore friends haven't had trouble finding anything either.
Portions vary depending on what you get (the appetizer nachos and breakfasts are huge, but a side of fries is pathetically small for $2), and the desserts lack a certain spark.
Prices are on the high side for Baltimore diner fare (and Baltimore has a lot of diners to compete with), but in line with the DC area. In my expereince, a meal at Papermoon is generally about a buck or two lower than Cafe Hon or XS. Let's face it, though, you're paying for the decor and the ability to get something late as much as you are the actual food.
Service can be slow during peak times, but I haven't had the rude servers that other people seem to complain about.
Parking isn't abundant, but finding street parking's not too bad as long as you stay close.
Overall, it's worth going if you like a high dose of kitch or want somewhere eclectic to show off to visiting out of towners. JHU students tend to have a real love/hate for the place (a lot of them find it overpriced). [05 Jul 2006 21:52:11]
