Fails to impress
Where did the all you can eat crab houses of old go? This place offers adequate Maryland blue crabs (nothing great, you're guaranteed better crabs taking out from Cameron's), but huge crowds, timed crab eating where they're mighty stingy with subsequent helpings, seating next to people who aren't in your party, expensive beer, very expensive steamed shrimp (while you'd think it would be included with the crab feast).. sigh, for a crab lover, this place leaves me ever so disappointed. BEST crabs west of the Bay!!
Jeanne and I have been eating and enjoying crabs here at the Beth Rab House for well neigh on 23 years now,we figure. The owners here are TOPS and deserve rich honors in presentation and delivery of the finest quality #1 A Blue males!! Get the REAL hot ones,like Jeanne does... 2-3 pitchers of Schlitz and WHAMMMM! Lock and bar the door....call the cops!!! This place is X-L-NT!!! Bethesda Ave. and Clarendon Rd. Sit outside and have a BALL!! Wave to Jeanne too...she's there all the time.

Great crabs, authentic atmosphere, but not cheap.
I haven't eaten here in a while, but not because it wasn't good. The crabs are exactly right (call ahead to reserve XLs!); pitcher beer, shrimp, newspaper on the table - no pretense.

disappointed
Every year we celebrate my birthday with crab. The first year we went here, we were pleased. However the last two years we were very dissappointed. The crabs did not seem fresh and the help was surly when we told them. Perhaps the place has become too complacent. We are looking for a new crabhouse.    [25 Aug 2006 08:03:13]

The best crabs in DC/MD area. Expensive but flavor is always right. you need to always make a reservation. Staff are not very friendly and place is a dump but this is what Maryland crab is all about.    [16 Oct 2006 00:49:55]
