WOW!
Food Dishes are creative, flavorful and presented wonderfully. They are works of art in an of themselves. Try one of the daily specials to be impressed and be sure to save room for dessert! The cannoli's are excellent!

Service is always well organized, friendly and available. The restaurant is small so you can always catch the attention of someone, even if it's not your waiter/waitress and they're always willing to assist you.

Ambiance - small cozy italian fresco style with grape vines hanging from mock arbors, fresco coated walls, italian music and italian tiles on the tables and floors. Nice neighborhood 'hole in the wall' type of restaurant in strip mall that does not look interesting when you're standing in front of it so you can easily miss it. However you should take the time to come inside and be swept away by the smells from the kitchen.

Bottom line....This restaurant definitely deserves a try. Besides the standard italian fare the chef is always adventurous and tries new combinations of foods and ideas with his daily specials. It used to be that you could always get a table quickly. Now, because of such positive 'word of mouth' spreading the news about this restaurant be prepared to wait awhile for a table. If you do have to wait, ask the sommelier for a recommendation on wine. You can be sure you'll have a nice glass to sip while waiting for your table and your dining adventure to begi    [12 Mar 2002 12:04:08]

Atrocious Service
While the food was very good, this was the most frustrating dining experience of my life. It took a total of one hour and forty minutes after ordering to get our dinners. Three separate inquiries of the waitress were met with a response of "special orders take a while" yet we had NO special orders. Three requests to speak to a manager were ignored. Nobody ever apologized, nobody ever offered to find out what was taking so long, nobody offered to do anything to make it right. Completely unprofessional.    [27 Jul 2005 16:13:39]

Try it again...
We found this place about five years ago... and actually stopped going after a while because the food wasn't what we had come to expect. However, the owner stepped back into the mix and the food quality again seems consistent. There are still times when they can have an "off night" - (both in service and food) but for the most part, this is a very good restaurant. While I think they go out on a limb too oten with specials, Agrodolce's pasta dishes are about some of the best I've had.

So-So. Overpriced
My husband and I ate at Agrodolce one evening and were very disappointed. I had the gnocchi and he had a pasta dish (vegetarian). My gnocchi was literally MUSH. The cream sauce was so rich I could only eat a few bites! It was like eating pure cream!
My husband's pasta was not exceptional, at all. Just penne pasta with some tomato sauce and vegetables. Nothing we couldn't do at home.
The bread was delicious, however we'd never go back. The prices are very high for what the give you and the quality.    [09 Jan 2007 11:05:03]

Consistently good
This is a great neighborhood restaurant worth the drive from ANY neighborhood.

The Chef/Owner is creative and flexible, the wine list is more than adequate and the waitstaff are professional and knowledgeable (if Connie is working, you're dining experience will exceed your expectations).

Aside from the menu, be sure to check out the specials.

There are also a few stools at the bar so you can enjoy a glass of wine in the event there is a wait, however, the waitstaff is pretty adept at turing the tables quickly.

Try al fresco dining on the patio...you won't be dissapointed.

I've eaten there on weeknights and on weekends and the place is clean, the noise level is low and the food is great.    [22 Apr 2007 20:06:02]

Not family friendly!
For my 30th birthday I decided to get some hopefully authentic Italian food. After recently returning from a three year tour in Italy, I was craving authenticity. My husband, who is active duty, was unable to dine with me due to his work. I took my three young children out with me to celebrate. As soon as we entered the restaurant, I knew we weren't welcomed. The glare I got from the hostess said it all. Apparently a woman with children 6 and under should not dine out.

After being seated, I ordered my drink and the kids meals as to make sure they had something to do as the restaurant does not provide anything for children. My son then made a beeline for the door (smart kid). As I struggled out of my cramped seat to get to him, he was able to run past two staff members and was through one door and almost the second before I could get him. When I asked the hostess if she could block the door should he do it again, my request was answered by a woman behind the bar across the restaurant, "She's not a babysitter". Well no kidding she's not. I was only hoping she was a decent human being who would try to avoid letting a 2 yr old run into the parking lot. Apparently that was too much to ask.

We returned to our seats and was informed by the couple at the table next to us that they were shocked at how rude the staff was. As I waited 10 minutes later my drink and the kids ravioli came out. Three pieces of ravioli each with sauce. Great. I ask for no sauce and my drink was wrong as well (Coke instead of a root beer). I ordered a third plate of ravioli when I saw how little food the children got. I also finally ordered my own meal. Then waited ten minutes before I saw a waiter again. Apparently mine was elsewhere.

By this point in time, I was fuming. I asked the new waiter to cancel my order and to bill me for the drink and the two plates of 6 dollar 3 piece ravioli we got. He disappeared for a while and finally my old waiter returned rather upset. He said that my tortellini was almost ready and that the manager would not take it off my bill. I informed him that I would pay for the food we have received but that I was not staying do to severe lack of service. He again disappeared. I politely waited and resisted the urge to walk out. Perhaps I assumed that the manager would at least address my grievences with me. Instead the manager, who I think was named Patrick, dropped on my table a doggy bag and said "you still need to pay for it because it is made to order." I said no and offered him the opportunity to contact the authorities and we could discuss the bill with them. The manager declined and said he would take care of the bill. He of course was quick to add that they were not a babysitting service. Again the shocking revelation. Especially since the only incidence with my kids was the one dash by my son.

As for the food, at least what I saw, the only thing that was good was the bread. Of course that was never refilled. The ravioli for the kids were medium size and again only three. The sauce was an alfredo. This is of note as Alfredo sauce is specific to the United States. In Italy, it does not exist, and yes we travelled the regions. They have cream sauces but no "Alfredo" that we know ine the States and were served at Agrodulce. Ciao.    [04 Dec 2007 21:23:05]

A once great restaurant finally bites the dust!
Jan 2008: Thursday evening:

A once fabulous restaurant in Germantown has finally bit the dust in my opinion. We used to absolutely love it. Decor has been diminished by the owner taking down the beautiful grape vines that graced the ceiling. It now seems too open and cold & lacking of decor.

Prices: The prices have gone up unbelievably. Approximately $19/+ for just the entree (pasta) dishes, which were very small in size.

What we had:

Bread: Stale & not the beautiful Yeasty bread of many years ago. We had to ask for fresh to be baked for us. Had to ask for Olive oil for dippping as non was brought to our table.

Gnocchi di Tartufi: Gnocchi had no flavor of Truffle at all, were thoughtlessly cut unevenly and pasty chewy. No garnish.

Pollo alla Noce: Chicken breast in a walnut-rum cream sauce with spinach,
green apples and preserved ginger. Served with fried plantains and potatoes $17

-Good flavor, but extremely greasy. Butter oozing out of the potatoes onto the plate under the chicken breasts.

Salad: Same for the "salad" which was an additional $2 with the meal. Served in a tiny oval plate with one (1) grape tomato and one slice of unpeeled cucumber, we expected more form a restaurant of this pricing, such as cucumbers that have been julienned and halved grape or cherry tomatoes (more). The salad presentation was thoughtless and looked like the field greens that come out of a bag from Costco.
The Lemon Vinegarette dressing was good I may say.

Dessert:

Tiramisu: Classic espresso soaked cakes with mascarpone cream $6. Good Flavor, but the ladyfingers (or spongecake) in this dessert were definately oversoaked/mushy with espresso syrup and served in a coffee mug. I thought a more beautiful presentation in another type of high glass dish would have showcased this dessert better.

Trio of Sorbet: Mango/Pasiion Fruit/Raspberry - Very good refreshing dessert. Garnish was missing though.

Bathroom Cleanliness & Decor: Ladies room was dirty and unimpressive. Toilet paper on the floor, dirty floor, top on the floor from the trashcan, broken drywall seen as you first the ladies room - where the soap dispenser was replaced (looks like it was ripped off the wall), Light over the sink didn't work. The bland beige and gold paint job looked like an unprofessional "attempt" at faux painting. The Wall art(posters) were nice though, Sadly, the ladies room would have looked better with real Italian colors: a crisp deep goldenrod color paint with a bright red accent wall. -Some Pizzaz! The bathroom didn't smell nice either. Something that smells good at the sink area as well as a nice flower arrangement is in order.

Chef: Not friendly. Wouldn't accept a request to make Chicken Parmigiana and so frightened/shhoed the waitress out of the kitchen, we were afraid to ask for anything custom for fear of what he may do to our food.

Wait staff: Friendly, but inexperienced and seemingly young for a restaurant charging this much for entrees. The waitress became a bit in- attentive (the restaurant wasn't very busy because of snow) and she forgot to say "good-bye" and "thank you" (very important in my opinion)when we were ready to leave. For that, we only left a 15% Gratuity.

Try this restaurant if you want to through your money away. I am sorry to write this unhappy review of a once wonderful restaurant.    [18 Jan 2008 13:31:30]

the best RESTAURANT in the world.
My husband and 6 children were finding somewhere new to eat so we tried Agrodolce. With my first step in the door i knew we were warmly welcomed. The very soft but heard kind and warm hostess asked how we were and i told her. We were fine. She was a very nice hostess. she led us to a section by the window where there was plenty of room for my whole family. Then a kind waiter named Nick came and gave us time to make up our minds. I asked for iced tea ( very good) and my children asked for sprite all around. my husband coke and within 5 minutes we got everything- bread, olive oil with cheese, drinks, and we even ordered our food. We got it all in 15 minutes. there was a very very tasty meal. I got the best food. It was not to pricey. We left with mints for all of us and we were very pleased with everything. Service was kind, quick, cheerful, it was perfect. Food was the best we tasted in years, and the chef is very nice and understanding, overall a five star restaurant!    [02 Apr 2008 18:58:00]
