Never Again I had their house specialty today - slow roasted pork. There was very little pork and what there was was fatty, gristly, or tough. (It was served with a serated knife.) At $12.99 for lunch, I wish I had gone across the street to Ambrosia or further up the Pike to Kuzine or Fontina Grill. [31 May 2004 18:26:53]

Always a Treat I've been going to the Cuban Corner for about ten years now. I try to make it into Rockville at least every six months and I always stop there on my way home for a cuban sandwich and a side of fried yuca. The service is always friendly, though the restaurant is usually packed and busy. I've had ropa vieja and black beans and rice there also. The food is always good. [29 Mar 2005 10:58:24]

Excellent Cuban Food I took my daughters here and we had a great meal. Cuban food was new to me, so Cuban Corner was a wonderful introduction. I will be coming back. [21 Apr 2005 09:02:45]

Great Food I was skeptical about trying a new ethnic food, but was convinced to do so. Well, my family thought IT WAS AWESOME...and the service...excellent. My children loved everything...tasty flan!! [11 Jun 2006 12:53:02]

I do not recommend it! I love Cuban food. However, the Cuban Corner was terrible. The food was too expensive considering the serving size, and I was disappointed by the quality of the food.. They even managed to mess up white rice. How is that possible? I only wish I could have gotten my money back. [26 Sep 2007 13:10:49]

Super Food and The Wall! As far as my palate is concerned, Cuban Corner is the best and most authentic Cuban restaurant in the Greater Washington, DC area.
The food is authentic, affordable and plentiful. My favorite dish there is "Ropa Vieja," although the "Vaca Frita" is also superb. Either of those dishes, with a side of yucca con mojo or tostones, will delight your mouth and belly.
A visit to Cuban corner also delivers the interesting spectacle of the restaurant's Cuban Hall of Fame... or as they call it: The Wall.
The Cuban Hall of Fame, as determined by Joaquin Cabrejas, the restaurant's feisty owner, is composed of Cubans, Cuban-Americans, and people of traceable Cuban ancestry, and is made up of hundreds of name plaques glued to the restaurant's walls.
Some potential surprises to non Cubans:
- Angela Anais Juana Antolina Rosa Edelmira Nin y Culmell - otherwise known as Anais Nin.
- Amazon's creator Jeff Bezos.
- Truman Capote (by adoption).
- Eamon de Valera: The father of the modern Irish republic was Eamon de Valera, who was born in New York in 1882. His father, Juan de Valera, although technically a Spaniard, was really a Cuban, born in Cuba (which was part of Spain back then), the son of a Cuban sugar planter and escaped to New York during the Independence Wars with Spain. There he earned his living as a piano teacher. He met and married Irish immigrant Catherine Coll. Juan died shortly after the birth of their son Eduardo. After Juan's death, his wife sent Eduardo to Ireland, where her family changed his name to the Gaelic version of Eduardo: Eamon.
- Cameron Diaz.
- The Joker... I mean Cesar Romero.
And loads more! [29 Nov 2007 12:41:39]
