Not worth the money The food was cold and not very good. The service was okay. Will not be going back. [29 Apr 2006 19:30:35]

Pretty average I've had lunch at On the Border a few times lately. The service I've experienced has always been pretty good, but the food is fairly average. From a food standpoint, I'd say that On the Border is the fitting successor to Chi-Chi's.
The pork tamales are somewhat better than I've had at other chain Tex-Mex places. There is a distinct flavor to the meat and the coating. They are served with a light chili sauce and are not bad, but they don't hold a candle to what I've had at storefront taquerias.
The cheese and onion enchilada is tasty, especially given that it is pretty much just a tortilla, cheese and onions, in a mildish sauce. It is definitely a step above the completely flavorless ones I've had at some other Tex-Mex chains locally.
Where I was disappointed was with the fish tacos. These are of the deep-fried-and battered fish variety, with a slightly grainy crust that absorbed a lot of the oil from the fryer. It absorbed enough oil that the oil flavor overwhelmed the fish flavor.
In the short time that On the Border has been open in this location, it has become quite popular with the employees of the auto manufacturing corporation in the adjoining business park, making it crowded at lunch time. [19 May 2006 13:10:06]
