Nice, but not worth the price. Dined on a Saturday night. Sat at the bar for a couple cocktails before dinner. The bartender was friendly, but kept leaving the bar to waitress - leaving us hanging when we needed another drink. The drinks were measured and weak. One of the cooks was sitting at the bar doing the books which I thought odd during business hours. Dinner was fairly good, but overpriced for the portion size. The duck was cut into small medallions that left us hungry. The venison was supposed to be a filet, but arrived in small medallions as well with a very bland couscous or orzo. At $27 a plate, we felt a little ripped off. The waitstaff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. We have dined at a lot of nice restaraunts and Madidi, although nice, will not be on our return list. Do the Delta right and hit one of Clarksdale's BBQ joints. [30 May 2004 19:26:00]

Trading on Morgan Freeman's name We had the misfortune of going on an evening when they were hosting cocktails/hors d'ouevres for a group of some kind. The lone server was trying to look after the group as well as the rest of the restaurant. The rest of the restaurant got short shrift. Took over an hour for her to get around to taking our order and another hour for the food to arrive. Food was good enough, but that kind of service stinks, particularly for the prices they charge. They've got a million dollars worth of publicity by trading on Morgan Freeman's name, but they need to get someone who knows how to RUN the quality restaurant they want everyone to think they are. Other times we've been there, service has been glacial and food wildly inconsistent (oysters were overcooked to the point of inedibility; lobster was ice cold, as if it had come from the freezer and been only partially thawed; one steak ordered medium rare was cooked shoe leather tough, another was barely warm). To give them their due, when everything falls into place, food and service can be quite good. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to happen that often. [01 Jun 2006 15:16:42]

Freeman delivers on screen but not in the kitchen I will tell you now that I will watch any movie that Morgan Freeman is in. I like his acting THAT much. I will also tell you that I WILL NOT be eating at Madidi again. You know you are in trouble when the highlight of the meal is the bread and butter. I went to Madidi for dinner with my wife and son, and while the dishes sounded great on paper, the execution was very, very poor. My wife's filet that was ordered "medium" came out well done, and my son's "medium rare" came out barely medium. Both steaks were bland and the quality of the meat did not reflect the price on the menu. I tried somehting a bit more advenurous with the Tuna and Wasabi Foam. The Wasabbi had hardly had any flavor and every dish on my plate (very attractively presented) was COLD. The service, while adequate, was somewhat humorless and unengaging. If I had to sum up Madidi, I would have to say it is "over ambitious". [28 Nov 2006 17:40:12]
