This is by far the best dining establishment in the city of Hattiesburg. The environment is classy and elegant. The food is the freshest in the city. [20 Jan 2004 16:17:48]

206 Front is worth traveling for My wife and I are from Pascagoula, and we like to eat and enjoy restaurant settings. 206 Front in Hattiesburg, MS; downtown area has the classy feel and the laid-back style that is hard to achieve in the restaurant business.
The service was great with someone paying attention right away and continuously without annoying over waiting.
The food explodes with savory flavors. I have returned for several visits since finding it. The prices are abnormally affordable, and the wine list has rock bottom prices for wines of great quality vintage.
We love it. [27 Jan 2004 16:35:24]

206 Front is Our Favorite Restaurant We only recently started visiting 206 Front, but it has rapidly become our favorite restaurant. The dishes are excellent, the mixed drinks live up to the standards of the food, and the service is exceptional. The mood is very relaxing and not oppressive. The pricing won't burn a hole in your pocketbook, either. It's a nice place to go after a day at the office to unwind and have a nice meal. [21 Oct 2005 02:27:28]

206 Front has room to improve I went to 206 Front about two months ago around four in the afternoon. My girlfreind and myself wanted a nice place to eat that was a bit more romantic. It sets a nice atmosphere without being snobish. The waitress was very nice, attentive to our needs. However, I ordered the black and bleu steak, medium, with potatoes and veggies. They were very prompt to bring our food, hardly no wait at all. I found the steak to be quite rare, to the point of a cool bloody center. Not being a T-Rex, I asked that it be thrown back on the grill until it was medium. After it was brought back to me I asked for a steak knife but was told the meat is so tender that I only needed a butter knife. In fact. they didn't have any steak knives at all. My steak wasn't that tender and it took quite a bit of cutting (with a butter knife) to cut my meal. It was very good though, I would just bring my own knife if you decide to go. 206 Front - Worst Service in Town My fiance and I went to this restaurant (it was my first visit; he works at USM and has had several luncheons at this particular establishment) and I was pleasantly surprised with the beautiful decor and paintings. I was much less impressed with our meal and service. We sat down and started off with one waitress and, for whatever reason, ended up with another waitress named Karli. Not only did my fiance wait over 45 minutes for a drink he had ordered (the waitress continually told us how "busy" it was - though the table next to us sat down after us, ordered drinks and salads and received them within 5 minutes) she never brought us bread that was promised . The meal was subpar at best (I had the marinated shrimp and polenta - both were burnt; my fiance had the chef's special pork chop in a carmelized apple sauce and was only given a butter knife to cut it...we asked Karli four different times for a steak knife that never arrived at our table.) Annoyed with our service, my fiance told Karli that he did not want the beer he ordered...suddenly the beer arrived at our table and she assured us that the drink was on her. It then took us 20 minutes to get our check - only to discover that she CHARGED US FOR THE DRINK! The manager (or owner? not sure) came over and asked us how our meal was and we explained the situation. He was unapologetic and rather rude. We will not be returning to this establishment and my fiance and his department will not be holding luncheons here anymore.
$85.00 bill and HORRIBLE SERVICE. [11 May 2008 14:29:56]

Spectacular! I've been to 206 Front several times over the years, and the restaurant is not only a breath of fresh air deep in the heart of fried food country, it's simply a fantastic dining experience.
On my most recent visit, we had the sweet potato bisque which was sweetly savory without being cloying or ultra starchy. The mushroom soup had a great earthiness about it, even if the cook was a little too liberal with the salt (the cup was clean when I was done with it).
I should probably note that the martini they made was spot on. For some reason, martinis seem to be difficult in this area of the country (a recent attempt in Georgia was salty, cloudy and green due to a heavy-handed olive juice dump; one in Alabama showed up on the rocks; another was shaken ... but not with ice).
My entree was the duck rendered on ratatouille with peppercorn sauce. I asked for it medium rare, and it came out perfectly red in the middle with a modest and well-seasoned layer of fat and skin on the outside. Easily cut with a butter knife, the duck was simply outstanding and the peppercorn sauce was a perfect accompaniment.
My aunt ordered the filet with lump crab meat and porcini sauce -- "excellent," she said.
The greenness of the waitstaff was totally overlook-able considering how friendly and affable our waitress was. She hadn't tasted all the menu items, but she readily admitted that and happily discussed the ones she had tasted (note to executive chef: your staff really should know what all the food tastes like). On our way out, we were thanked by our waitress (twice), two of the chefs and one of the other employees. I'm from Washington, D.C., and I tell ya: I'll take friendly any day over snooty expertise. This is one of the very few upscale restaurants in which I truly feel welcome and appreciated. No pretension here.
You just have to try this restaurant. The dining room has high ceilings in a modern, open setting with different hand-thrown chargers at every place setting. The prices? Well, they're easily half what you'd expect to see for the same quality in bigger cities (my duck was $18). If you're looking for a nice dinner in Hattiesburg, this place is it.
