The west may be wild but it's not uncivilized The Rainbow Ranch is not what you would expect in a Monatana ski town.
Great food, service, atmosphere and a wine list that compares with anything I've seen outside of New York. [27 Jan 2003 21:19:43]

Truly one of a kind! Upon entering I was warmly greeted by the proprietor Patrick Hurd and his friendly staff. Before dinner we sipped our stoli doli's by the river rock fireplace.
From the Sweet Butter-Poached Bay Scallops to the Molton Chocolate Cake everything was phenominal!
The Rainbow Ranch is a special place for family gatherings as well! The Rainbow Ranch made my family reunion a memorable experience. [15 Dec 2003 01:43:57]

Impeccable dining and service From the moment you enter the Rainbow, its staff do an incredible job of making your night special. Whether one is in the mood for fresh flown in seafood, beef, wild game or a variety of vegetarian options, Chef Tom Donohue prepares and presents dishes that suit everyones' palate. The wine list compares to some of the most extensive in the U.S. and the wine cellar, which is simply magnificent, seats up to fourteen people for dinner. [08 Jan 2006 21:45:15]

Diamond in the rough We recently visitied Big Sky, Montana and although the west may be wild, we discovered a fabulous diamond in the rough - The Rainbow Ranch Lodge and Restaurant. The food, wine and service were incredible. The menu was on par with restaurants in big cities across the globe and the wine list was extensive to say the least with 600 plus selections. The overall atmosphere was wonderfully rustic yet elegant and cozy with antler chandeliers, beautiful wood floors and a riverrock fireplace in the lounge.
I would recommend it to anyone travelling to Montana! [10 Jan 2006 13:39:33]

Where do you think this place is? Not in New York, or Paris, or Napa, have I ever been charged a per-head fee for having to cancel a reservation. Patrick claimed he explained the fee when I made the reservation - he simply asked for a credit card number. His demeanor when I disagreed with him was not very friendly, either. This may be a great place to eat, but you better make sure you are going to be there! I'll pass, thanks. There are plenty of other places in this area to get a great dinner. [03 Jan 2007 15:31:24]

A Bit of An Attitude Staff and proprietor have specific expectations of their diners. If you deviate, be prepared to receive a cold shoulder. Not everyone in the party should have to partake of each course; yet, that is what is explicitly expected. Chill out! You are in Montana. Your patrons are arriving from outdoor activities and recreation and do not appreciate being held to your stuffy standards. [31 Jan 2007 23:24:45]
