It's A Soulful Experience
The thing I like about living in the South is the love of good food that brings folks together. When I eat at the "Cup" I can expect to break bread with folks from all walks of life. There are businessmen in their starched white shirt as well as construction workers and businesswomen in tailored suits. It's a melting pot of society with the common factor being the pursuit of good food that makes no apologies. The collard greens are some of the best this side of my Aunt Ida's kitchen in upper Pickens County. The fried chicken was a five napkin cleaner-up but the grease makes your lips feel alive. The cobbler was outstanding as I expected it would be. The atmosphere is a little loud and there's this beat up Rock-ola jukebox loaded with vintage R&B. Like grandma cooked it.
This funky little place offers some of the most delicious home cookin' I've ever eaten. Ignore the weeds in the crumbling parking lot, because ambiance is not what you're there for.

The stew meat is fork tender and juicy. The sweet potato cobbler is melt-in-your-mouth. My daughter moaned in ecstasy over the macaroni and cheese. The shrimp and grits were perfect, and the fried chicken excellent.    [10 Jul 2006 21:12:47]
