Not so hot! Drove an hour and a half because this sounded like it'd be fun. Someone had posted that the food was good, but that the place was noisy.
Yes, it's a noisy place. We were there at about 2PM on a Saturday and it wasn't THAT crowded, but it was very noisy. We were expecting to hear some great 50's tunes, but the noise killed that idea for the most part, and hearing the same tunes over and over again (like 4 times each in an hour or so of time) wasn't much fun. I had expected to see poodle skirts for the effect, but not to be.
The food was mediocre, and the wait for it was ridiculously long. I ordered a clam chowder and a pastrami sandwich. I was expecting too much to have the chowder served before the sandwich I guess, as it all arrived together. The sandwich was supposed to have cheese on it, but there was none. The chowder hardly passed for such.
Saving the best (worst!) part for last, the place was filthy. The floor didn't appear to have been swept in a LONG time. There was silverware and an old napkin under our table, a long and very visible hair on the floor under the next table, and scraps of food everywhere.
It was TERRIBLE choice and we'll never go back, but we drove on up to Alton and made the loop around the big lake and had a nice ride, so the day wasn't a complete loss despite this place's attempt to make it so.
