Not all that it's cracked up to be The place is usually crowded, with lines spilling out onto the steps. I wonder if this is because of something I didn't order, or because there is no other diner around the area. The food is not all that great. I fail to see what the big deal is all about. The only saving grace for this place is the free breads on the table. The place is dirty... extreme visible dust on all their 'stuff' strewn all around the ceiling. I had coconut custard pie which was to choke on, with strings of coconut too large for the pie. It was warm... just no good. This is a classic example of owners biting off more than they can chew! The waitresses must come from a nearby retirement village. There was one standing behind our table in non smoking on Saturday 10/16/04 speaking so LOUDLY about an impending birth and renovations to her home. We ended up leaving fast. Keep going down the road... you are bound to find a McDonald's that is better [19 Oct 2004 07:22:36]

come hungry I have been here on several occasions lately and every time the food is excellent and enough for two meals. The blueberry pancakes, all baked goods and the prime rib are some of my favorites. There are lines because the food is good. [23 Mar 2005 11:49:17]

Very good Family Restaurant My family and I have been going to Mastoris for the last 20 years. The food is very good and can be exceptional depending on what you order. If you are looking for McDonalds type food this is not the place. I would recommend the prime rib, or the chicken michelle, or one of the many tasty entrees. This is the best diner I have ever been to and it is really much more then a diner. With over 200 things to order absolutely everyone can find something they enjoy. The bread is really something special and the portions are huge. Like I said, my family has been going for 20 years and will probably be going for another 20. [02 Apr 2006 13:34:45]

For Pete's Sake! My friend and I just returned from Mastoris. I must tell you, this place is gross. We sat in the "Lounge", one of probably 20 additions slapped on to this diner over the years. What a disgusting and dirty place to eat. The coffee was very hot. I still have the desert menu stuck to my hand as I write this review. Seriously, the menu is still stuck on me. I'm not lying.
Did I mention the coffee was hot? Anyway, there was foreign substances on every menu. And what's up with the carpet in a diner... carpet should not be in any diner. But wait, you say you were in the lounge, not the diner. Please, let's be honest here. This is a diner... there is no fine dining going on here, despite what many of the sorry Bordentownians might say. If your only choice is between Mastoris and Chickie's & Pet's, you might as well eat McDonald's.
Anyway, we were not offered any of their "famous" breads. We decided to order desert. My friend ordered plain cheesecake which was very good. I ordered the Chocolate Lovers. It was on the menu twice, so I figured it must be good. Our waiter, Ste, said it was great and that I MUST order milk with it. I did not appreciate this. I don't need anyone ordering me what to order. I think he just wanted a bigger tip. Anyway, the cake was so-so... kind of gross. I feel pretty sick. And eating this while having to look at dead deer and ducks hanging on the wall didn't help.
There was staff crowding around with a vacuum on the floor. It seems they didn't appreciate us being there. With the exception of Ste, it appeared that the entire staff came from the Mastoris retirement home across the street. On second thought, maybe that's how they can afford to give such big servings.
So let's talk about the menu. There has to be at least 300 items on this thing. How could that possibly be good? Fresh? I don't think so. Frozen? Yup. Just like Stouffer's. Price's say fine dining, but everything else screams overrated (except maybe the #76).
Now please excuse me while I get some paint thinner to remove this menu. [09 Sep 2006 02:45:28]

The Thanksgiving from Hell We have been eating at Mastoris for many years but have noticed that the food is becoming increasingly salty. That was true for this year's Thanksgiving dinner. After waiting for 45 minutes for our reservation to be honored, we were seated in a banquet room in the back at a table that appeared to be added in a very strange, uncomfortable place. Our waitress was a very hostile woman, and if she was that angry, she should not have been working on a holiday, when people look forward to a happy, peaceful meal. She scolded my husband for finding himself a chair that did not rock, she burned me with a hot dish, and she spilled an entire glass of water on my daughter. The gaspacho was bitter and strange. I couldn't eat it. Salads were ok, but the turkey was VERY salty. We were all quite disappointed in the meal and felt relieved to return to our car. It was a very uncomfortable, unpleasant experience, and it reminded us that the food has really gone downhill. [28 Nov 2006 04:09:51]

Great family dinning Mastoris has been a place I have dined for years. We are on a second generation of taking our family to Mastoris. The offerings are more than you wil find anywhere else. We especially like the Breakfast there, but often go for dinner as well. In fact I just made reservations for Thanksgiving dinner this year because last year was absolutely great.
