Interesting Western Steakhouse Cattlemen's Steak House is in many ways your quintessential Western steakhouse. Casual with a bar and smoking area on one side and a smoke-free restaurant on the other. Decor is interesting with Western themes: Indian pottery, period history, civil war swords, saddles, etc. Atmosphere is laidback. Service was OK-- not really professional, but they tried. Nachos appetizer was OK, but could have used more spicy meat and cheese, less lettuce and jalapenos. Salads with meal were ok, nothing to write home about. All members of our party ordered steak. One was ordered medium-rare and came medium-well. It was of course somewhat chewy. One was ordered medium but came very rare and had to be sent back for more cooking. One was just right. I believe the problem was more with the waitress who took the order than with the cook. Baked potato OK, fries OK. Mashed potatoes were sub-par. One strange thing is that we all had different knives given to us; mine was the only quality steak knife... and I had to lend it to another in our party who couldn't cut his steak with the flimsy knife given him. This was kind of par for the evening. Not a very professional place. That being said, the steaks were generally tasty, pretty good. I wouldn't mind returning sometime to Cattlemen's, but I am in no hurry. Will probably stick with Cattle Baron or Outback locally. [05 Jan 2006 21:17:44]

I like this place! I've been eating at Cattlemen's for many years and it is probably my favorite steak house in L.C. I always enjoy their steaks and have never had to send one back. The salads and sides have always been OK, but I tend to agree with the earlier poster that they are nothing to write home about. The atmosphere has always been laid back, if not eclectic and I find the service unpretentious. (A Plus to me) I too have had the varying styles of silverware. I always figured they did it on purpose just to keep the "funk" quotient up. I hope you'll give this restaurant a try! [16 Jan 2007 20:04:40]

Two thumbs down Understaffed. Poor food preparation and a dusty decor that must have been charming 30 years ago. Another place that keeps the lights low, so they don't have to clean the corners so well.
Felt sorry for the prom kids celebrating there. Guess they could not get reservations at the Cattle Baron, Double Eagle or the Texas Steakhouse that night.
Would not recommend. [08 Apr 2009 22:01:54]
