Mmmmm Ribeye! After getting lost driving in circles in Santa Fe a few times, drive out Old Las Vegas Highway, 1/2 mile past where you think you should give up, to Bobcat Bite. Splurge. Get the Ribeye Steak! For about $15 you'll get a luscious tender juicy piece of steak cooked just the way you like it. And the waitress will be great! Friendly and efficient. The place is tiny, and plain, but there are bobcat pictures on the wall! Who could ask for more? [25 Oct 2003 22:44:58]

1500 MILE DRIVE FOR THE BEST BURGER My daughter and I drove 1500 miles and wound up with the best burger we've ever had!! You almost expect to see some interesting wildlife coming down from the mountains just beyond the view out the picture window....but are treated to a view of fruit trees and hummingbirds, instead. Charming place, charming people! Worth the wait! [15 Apr 2004 22:44:51]

One of the top 10 in US I consider myself a burger gourmand. Over 50 years ago I had my first burger and have probably had over 3000 burgers since. I rate the burger itself first and then only secondary...the ambiance.
I heard about Bobcat Bite about 10 years ago and when I went to Santa Fe it was on my most wanted list. We drove and drove until we saw no more lights and then drove more. Yes we found out it was close to an interstate entrance ramp but we went the long way. There was a hitching post for your horse in front and a screen with a latch to keep out latecomers. the place was open only Wednesday to Saturday and from around 11:15 to 8:30 or so. But yes the Green Chile Cheeseburger was a thing of beauty. Thick, juicy cooked perfectly. If in the New Mexico area go to Santa Fe for this treat. [03 Sep 2004 19:25:35]

I'll never be the same I spent 5 summers in the Santa Fe area during college. The main reason I kept coming back was to be close to that amazing Green Chile Cheese Burger. It is truly an amazing one-of-a-kind burger. Nobody's life can be TRULY complete unless they have eaten at least one. [30 Dec 2004 06:34:52]

BITE DOWN ON A BOBCAT BITE GREEN CHILE CHEESE BURGER! The Green Chile Cheese Burgers and steaks are delicious...Rachael Ray missed out not having eaten at the BOBCAT BITE in her travels to the Santa Fe area! The secret is still intact. Try it out, I promise you will leave content with the discovery of a gem in the rough unlike any other eatery serving up some really good quality Steak & fantastic Green Chile Cheese Burgers, a signature food of New Mexico. There might be a little wait because the seating area is small, plain and simple…I mean really small but that’s what makes it up close and personal and worth the expectation once you sink your mouth into some really juicy meat prepared scrumptiously good. Terrible Service We had an extremely poor experience here two weeks ago today on a Friday at noon. We live half the year in Santa Fe and this was our first time at this restaurant, having heard good things about the food. When you arrive you put your name on a board and they go in turn to seat you. There was one name ahead of ours and that party was called. A waitress then skipped us (3 adults and a 3 year old) and seated a man whose party had not yet arrived. When we said something the waitress tried to get the man to leave the table but he would not, even though the people he was waiting for were not yet there. The waitress did not seem to care. We waited another 10 minutes for a table (the place is very small) and then one hour for the food to arrive. This has to be the very worst service in Santa Fe. The burgers were very good but certainly not worth almost an hour and a half wait. The wait would have been bad even if we did not have our 3 year old grandson with us. We will never go back to Bobcat Bite. [14 Sep 2007 12:59:38]

Heard about Bobcat Bite on Food Network While planning a vacation to Sante Fe, NM I heard about Bobcat Bite on the Food Network. They said Bon Appetit magazine had voted it #1 hamburger in the United States. We ate there on our last day in Santa Fe. It is on the outskirts of the city and we had to wait about 45 minutes to get in but WOW! What a treat. It is a cozy little diner that seats about 25 people, the bathroom is clean, service was fast and the green chile cheeseburger is the most incredible burger I have ever had - I even took a picture of it! If ever in Santa Fe - it is worth the stop! [04 Oct 2007 09:53:09]

Why did we wait so long to try the Bobcat? We have been coming to Santa Fe every 2-3 years since 1987. The Bobcat has always been on the radar (love the neon sign!) but for some reason, we've never stopped until this trip (reminded by the Bon Appetit mention, no doubt). The green chile cheeseburger is truly great. It comes, not with the usual french fries, but with yummy homefries or potato salad. Service was warm and accommodating even though the teeny place was packed to the gills. And I disagree with the reader who said the chalkboard system didn't work well...it worked fine. The Bobcat is definitely a winner! PS-Also recommended is the green chile cheeseburger at Dave's Not Here, another quirky place off the tourist track. [11 Oct 2007 17:27:07]

Hard To Find After hearing about Bobcat Bite on the Food Network, we too were anxious to try it. When we approached Santa Fe from the north, we plugged in the address on a GPS device. Magellan got us close, although still five miles away. Once there, and after a short wait we were served. It was absolutely worth the effort to find. If not the best burger in America, it's definitely in the top five I've ever eaten. Don't miss it!
