The Worst Experience
Attention all diners and party planners who may think this is a perfect place to hold their next function: I had a horrible experience with management, i.e. hidden charges, changes in menu and program. My party came out to be $100 a head which was above and over anything I had ever agreed to and the owner was very unhelpful in straightening out the bill after one of his staff who booked the party, mysteriously "left" shortly after.

My close friend held a bridal shower here a couple of weeks later and had a similar experience and is now disputing charges through American Express. Although this is a very cute place especially for the area, and the party itself was pleasant, the entire experience was a disaster and I do not recommend it to anyone. The food and service is nothing to write home about.

For People Who Appreciate Fine Food
The Riverdale Garden isn't for everyone. But for my husband and I it is a godsend in Riverdale. The food is superb. Granted it is expensive. It is not a scene, there is no vibe. The restaurant is serene and pleasant not beautiful. The service is fine, not impeccable... but the food is sublime.

So here's the problem: For those who are used to spending these prices at destination restaurants in the city, well RG doesn't deliver cachet or beautiful people. Nonetheless, for those who appreciate fine food and live nearby it offers food on par with most of our favorites in Manhattan with the convenience of home and it would be a terrible shame to lose it.

I urge my neighbors in Riverdale, Hudson Heights, and lower Westchester to dine at Riverdale Garden. There is no restaurant in the area that even approaches the quality of the food and preparation.    [22 Oct 2004 22:26:46]

Great Restaurant for the Neighborhood and Beyond
Had a fine meal at Riverdale Garden last weekend. Our food was amazing, cooked perfectly and the service was friendly and professional. The garden is like nothing that can found in Manhattan... full of flowers, birds, and butterflies. This is the kind of restaurant every neighborhood should have.    [08 Aug 2006 17:54:44]

The Garden of Eating
After numerous visits to this restaurant, I can emphatically state that it is among New Yorks gems.

Do not visit The Riverdale Garden if you are expecting to be part of "the scene." However, if it is a great meal you seek, then this is the place for you.

The menu offers an excellent variety of well prepared meals and the wine list is quite good with fine selections priced fairly.    [08 Apr 2007 18:18:03]
