Good Food. Awful Service. As New Yorkers of many, many years, we like to explore new places to eat. We anticipated Vince and Eddie's with enthusiasm on a very cold winter's night. They emphasize their fireplaces and comfortable atmosphere. We made reservations and requested the closest table to a fireplace for 2. Upon arrival we were greeted graciously by the host and coat check. However, we were then seated in the most far corner of the "garden" area, as far from a fireplace as possible. If the establishment was very busy, I would understand. This was certainly not the case. Many, many tables were free during our meal that I would certainly think to be a more accommodating, friendly and warm.
We took this all in stride and then were greeted by our waiter who was, to say the least, brusk and unfriendly. We had to ask for specials, which were presented hastily and almost incoherently. After we ordered a cocktail, our wine list was taken away as if we would not want a glass of wine with our main entreƩ. We then enjoyed our appetizers with pleasure. The calamari and the seafood tartar were very, very good. We then never saw our waiter again... our entreƩs then were served and again, no waiter offered wine, water or anything else. We then became impatient enough to get up and request some wine. The host was very responsive to offer wine selections and immediately served our choice and without notice we had a new waiter. She, the new waiter, paced past our table many, many times since, making us feel so uncomfortable. She seemed so gracious and attentive to other tables that we asked her name only to make sure that she was appreciated. She defensively gave her name in such a dismissive manner and stated that her boss newly assigned her to our table and that if we wanted, we could request someone else. So shocking a response as we only wanted to compliment her. I also saw her hiding behind a wall with other employees smirking as though we were difficult and unservable.
We are some of the most respectful, calm, understanding, open, forgiving New Yorkers that you will ever come across.... and for us to even give the time to write this should give you great concern about our treatment at this establishment. We and none of our friends will ever go there again. So sad as the food seemed to be very good. [26 Jan 2007 22:14:06]
