Our Man’s Palate Rises to Occasion - Friedman finds food, service exceptional at Fifth Season - The Business Journal, By Saul S. Friedman, 28 July 2004; Food good enough to write home about. Those words came to mind following a unique din-ing experience with my family last month. It’s rare enough when the Friedman palate is challenged anywhere. I cherish memories of salmon done to perfection at the Gastronome atop Idlewild when we visited Palm Springs last spring, or a goulash cooked up in a tiny restaurant off one of the alleys along King George Street in Jerusalem a few years back. After 35 years in Youngstown, I didn’t expect to find a treasure in the city where Arby’s was born. But take a drive out Mahoning Avenue, just a few hundred feet beyond Turner Road, shortly before you come to Meander Reservoir, and you will encounter the best restaurant in northeast Ohio -- The Fifth Season. This restaurant, an unpretentious structure that once housed the old Seven Mile Inn, is a tribute to the labors of its owner, Steve James. James, a resident of North Jackson, refined his culinary skills at the Winner Institute in Pennsylvania. . . - suggest change

EXCELLENT place and food!!!
Everytime we go to the Fifth Season, we are in a great restaurant with great servers and excellent food! We have watched deer grazing on the hill outside the windows. ANYTHING you get here is tasty and filling - I always have some to take home - because you HAVE TO SAVE room for DESSERT --- they make many homemade type desserts that are out of this world... you could compare this place to Springfield Grille and come out pretty even.    [23 Sep 2004 20:29:37]

Horrible!!!
Worst food ever. Too pricey. Food was cold and bland. Waited over 45 minutes for our table which we had reservations for. Then waited over an hour for our appetizers. Not expected during a weekday. I don’t know about some of the staff there. When I sent my food back for the second time (again cold) I overheard the owner was at the bar. What kind of an owner sees food coming out of the kitchen the way it was and still sits at the bar drinking? Hire new people, no one knows how to cook.    [17 Sep 2006 01:14:00]

WONDERFUL!!!
I love this place. I have been there many times and have never had a bad experience. I would say this is the BEST in the area, maybe even Ohio. Servers are also all friendly and has a wonderful atmosphere. I recommend this place to everyone.    [14 Dec 2006 13:31:45]

Best restaurant in Northeastern Ohio. Great food, fabulous friendly service, casual atmosphere. Steve does a terrific job as well as the staff, from the hostess' to the bartenders to the servers.    [28 Apr 2007 10:37:36]

INSULTED
I would not recommend this place. My entree was Carla's Seafood Pasta that was to include scallops. I noticed there was no scallops and when I brought it to the attention of the waitress she told me that the chef wanted me to know that he put them in there. She said at most they would take three dollars off. I never asked for a discount, and I just thought they would bring out the missing scallops. I was very insulted. We ordered appetizers and entress and was very hurt that I was being accused for trying to get scallops. It is not worth the wait for the low standard of service.    [02 May 2007 22:09:31]
