Good Bar Gone Commercial, How Sad
Just visited the "Lizard" for the first time in over 13 years from when it was the "Ridge", and I was so sad that I couldn't stay. Yes, the food is decent, and yes, the Jagermeister is great, but the old, original rustic ambiance of this once-rockin' blues dive has been sadly lost to the over cliche'd "sports bar", the one that is popping up everywhere from Seattle to New York City, the BW3's kind of nightmare made for upper-class white men who need to feel like they are once again cool.
I don't know about the rest of America, but I miss the old place, the 80 year old church pews, the dart pit, the floor stage where such bands as Freeze and AJ and the Gangsters of Blues once revved it up for a great local group of ecclectics I loved dearly.
I guess that all good things come to an end, and unfortunately, the Ridge is one of them.
Even though the Lizard serves decent food it is just a walking cliche of a bar now, no originality is left. Basically, you can find a place like this anywhere, unfortunately.    [24 Dec 2003 02:28:59]
