The Best Restaurant in Columbus The food and service here is incredible. The waitstaff is very professional and knowledgeable. And the food - truly a work of art. [15 Mar 2002 08:47:35]

Best Restaurant in Columbus? - Baloney! Let's forget that our group of 7 had problems with the "automated" reservation system (called and left the reservation 8 people at 6:30 PM on 5/20/2002 on the recording, which said that the restaurant would call back ONLY if there was a problem. Called back to change the reservation from 8 to 7 people, and were told that they didn't have a 6:30 reservation for our group, and that the earliest that they could seat us was 8:00 PM.
Only after our insistence, since everyone in the group had already been notified, did they agree to seat us at our original time.)
Let's forget that all of our group was seated by 6:30 PM, our orders were taken by 6:45, but our food wasn't served until 8:15 PM (most of it, that is, as they "forgot" 1 person's meal which was not served until 20 mi. after the others).
Let's forget the snooty and smug attitude of the head waiter when we pointed out the long delay in serving our food to which he replied "Your serving time was "normal" for this restaurant." Normal or not it was irritating and too much of a coincidence that our food was not served until AFTER the reservation time that they tried to force on us.
Let's talk about my food. According to [the previous] review, anything on the menu is "good.". Well, you can scratch off the Sea Bass from that list in my opinion. My Sea Bass was overcooked to the point of being rubbery (or should I say over-microwaved as it was clear that my entree had been "warmed up.") In addition, ignoring the so-so topping of some type of vegetable-based sauce, the size of the fish portion itself was no larger than used in a McDonald's fillet of fish sandwich. This made this rather pricey "high teens" entree even more pricey.
My Sea Bass was so bad that I should have returned it. I was so hungry that I ate it anyway. Interestingly, for a restaurant that serves entries "a la carte", I thought it was very odd that the only 2 side dishes listed on the menu were soup and salad (no potatoes, no vegetables, etc.).
I also was greatly offended by the fact that when I told the head waiter that I was dissatisfied with my dish, not only was no compensation offered, but again the haughty head waiter offered no apology to me.
This restaurant is supposed to be romantic and to have good food. Apparently that is because most people get "drunk" during the long wait on an empty stomach before their food is served, at which point anyone looks good and any food tastes good.
My delay in writing this review in no way lessens my comments.

Superb! This restaurant strives to make every dish an extravaganza. The food is fresh and consistently good. The desserts are always a treat---I love the chocolate/banana crepes.
If you haven't tried it, you are missing one of the best restaurants in Columbus. The Thursday night entertainment is just one more wonderful addition to a great restaurant. [08 Oct 2003 17:47:53]

Went from so-so to not-so-good in about 3 years Tried this place a few years ago and didn't like it, but it wasn't awful. Tried it again a few months ago, hoping it had improved, but this time it was pretty awful. The waitress was good and really very nice, but was forced to pretend that she had served me what I had ordered, which was supposed to be snapper, but was obviously the monkfish "special", and hardly edible. We waited way too long, the wine was not good, the head waiter gave a far too convincing portrayal of standard snob officiousness and rude indifference, possibly just very sick of the job or the business, the lighting was too dim, etc. The prices would be moderate if the food were better. Sorry. [24 Jul 2004 10:27:40]

Very disappointing, again. We had been to this restaurant a few times in the past, but found the food only fair and the maitre'd quite rude.
Decided to go back a few months ago to see if things had changed. We went on a Saturday night and were surprised by our experience. We had appetizers and a bottle of wine in the bar which were recommended by the lady bartender who was very pleasant and attentive. So we decided to go back for dinner in the dining room only to be met by the unfriendly maitre'd and left standing in the doorway for 15 minutes even though the dining room was half empty.
We opted to go in the lounge and had to wait there for service from an older, somewhat overwhelmed barmaid.
Finally we were moved to the dining room. We shared a pate appetizer which was very good. Our entrees, Steak Frite (over cooked) and the Salmon (under cooked) were a huge disappointment. 2 1/2 hours and a hundred bucks later, we left this restaurant for the last time.
Too bad, the ambiance is nice. [19 Dec 2006 15:52:59]
