Description

Offers both Chinese (Hunan, Szechuan, Mandarin) and Thai cuisine, also some entrees to please those with more American tastes such as spare ribs. The choice of well over 100 entrees vary widely including duck, chicken, beef, shrimp, seafood and vegetarian. If the spice rating on your dish is too high for you, they are willing to offer a milder version. A very large colorful aquarium with unusual tropical fish is part of the decor as well as upholstered chairs, booths or tables, soft lighting, 6-foot high art vases, mirrors, murals and a rug on the wall and fine linens.

AT HUNAN LION, SEAFOOD AND DUCK DISHES BECOME REGULAR OFFERINGS - The Columbus Dispatch, By Jon Christensen, 21 April 2005; There's a brand-new menu at Hunan Lion, with some of the long-running specials part of the permanent offerings. One of the best additions is the Thai spicy won-ton appetizer ($6.95): minced shrimp, tightly wrapped in thin dough and stir-fried crisp on one side, soft on the other. Each one is seasoned with a Thai-style sweet-and-sour sauce flecked with hot chili and shreds of fried fresh ginger. The frying brings out the inherent sweetness in the ginger, adding extra interest to what is already a richly seasoned dish. Another newcomer to the permanent list is the green-curry shrimp and scallops ($14.95). The lightly poached shellfish are redolent of the seasonings in the Thai green curry: coconut milk, green chilies, cilantro, galangal, shrimp paste and Thai basil. Providing color and additional seasoning are strips of sweet red pepper and bamboo shoots. Hunan Lion's new menu offers half a duck cut Chinese style, bone-in (house-special roast duck, $14.95). The crispy duck derives additional flavor from the five-spice mix and a Chinese barbecue sauce. - suggest change

Awesome Chinese Dinner
You must try the Fried Minced Chicken appetizer. Sesame chicken is incredible. Top it all off with plum wine. Outstanding!    [03 Jul 2003 09:50:25]

HUNAN LION STILL HEAD OF THE PACK
When it comes to Chinese food in Columbus, Hunan Lion is still leader of the pack. My first visit to Hunan Lion was 20 years ago and my recent visit proved it still served the quality food I remember. Through the years, I've eaten at Hunan Lion, as well as, Hunan House and have always enjoyed the food and ambiance. I don't get to visit as often as I would like, but this past Sat. 10/6/07 was a real treat. The friend I was with had never been to Hunan Lion and he thought it was the best Chinese he had ever eaten. We ordered wonton soup, spring rolls, mu shu pork and another pork dish (Empress Pork?) the name escapes me. These dishes were every bit as good as the food I've gotten in NYC's Chinatown. The decor is beautiful and romantic. Prices are reasonble and portions large. This is not your bottled sweet and sour, plastic mustard packet kind of restaurant. Ingredients are fresh and flavorful. Service is polite and attentive. I would recommend Hunan Lion to anyone who craves delicious Chinese cuisine.    [08 Oct 2007 15:56:04]
